Patricia brings Evan Rothstein with him back to Patriots

Wait, so the new Pats secret weapon is Rothstein who the lions asked to call the defensive plays against Tampa this year and the result was that Brady put up a perfect passer rating against that defense?

Maybe Belichick is going to pull a George Costanza meme and do exactly the opposite of what Rothstein recommends.

Way to twist things out of context, Mr. Sunshine.

Similar logic, but slightly different idea: have him call an offensive game next time.

Ernie is almost 68 and doesn't have any longevity milestones to chase like Bill does. I can't really blame him if he decides that he doesn't have another five years or so in him.

It thought he was a sports handicapper for the old guys back east?

My bad - that was Sam Rothstein.
Close.

Arnold Rothstein ran the Black Sox scandal.

Sam Rothstein was Bobby DeNiro's character in Casino.

Maybe he can crunch some numbers and coach up some people...

He ain't gonna go back and forth with Ernie Adams and do math problems on a whiteboard.....

I don't see why he wouldn't continue if his mental acumen isn't declining. It's not like he's an athlete or anything.

And what would he do in retirement?

Exactly. This kid has done nothing. He called the Lions defense last month when Tampa scored 6 passing touchdowns against Detroit, Brady himself had 4 passing TDs just in the first half. I don't even know if the kid is smart. Ernie Adams went to some great schools, became a self made millionaire on wall street before rejoining his buddy Bill. Don't even compare this kid to Ernie Adams, it's pretty ridiculous.

"This kid has done nothing"
"I don't even know if the kid is smart"

You don't know this guy and you're saying those things? Yeesh.

You don't know how his education went. You don't know his intellectual capabilities. You don't know his work ethic. You don't know his roles/responsibilities.

With an attitude like that, no one would get an employment opportunity. Pretty harsh things to be saying about someone you don't know.

Meanwhile, this is what people who actually worked with and know Rothstein have to say:

“Very, very smart guy — very smart,” said Harmon. “Handles a lot of the situational stuff we do as a team, smart, understands the game. He has a good handle on it, and I put my trust in him to do what he has to do to put us in the right defense and make the right calls so that we can go out there and play fast. ...

“He has his meetings each week where he talks about tendencies, signals, cadences, you know, just all the little nuances of the game that a lot of people might overlook. He’s that guy who is pointing it out for us so that we can have a good tip or a good tendency that we can hold our hat on.”
“He’s probably our most knowledgeable... Not probably, is our most knowledgeable in terms of our defense, what we’re doing really all the way across the board,” Bevell said about Rothstein ahead of that game. “He is very involved in game day already, so he’s been in tough situations on game day, helping with information and communication, so we felt like he has the most experience and will be able to get that done at a high level for us.”
“He works his ass off at his job, and he’s really, really good at his job,” said Okwara. “He’s a really, really smart, smart coach and a coach with a lot of detail. ... One of those guys that kind of crunches all the numbers for us and gives us all those little tidbits that we need for the game.”

If he’s the new Ernie, maybe he brings some new innovative ways to cheat with him. We need something to spruce up this team.

And what would he do in retirement?

Enjoy whats left of his life without ridiculous 80-100h work weeks ?

Why do you assume that he has no other interests he could pursue except football ? Most people are not that one dimensional.

The Pats 2021 uniforms are changing to 100% cotton.

You see, cotton breathes making the players feel cooler and then play better.
