I am bored, so I went over our points for/against stats over the last decade to see where we would project at (on paper) right now.

YEAR - ptsF - ptsA - Net - TDs
2009 - 427 - 285 - 142 - 50
2008 - 410 - 309 - 101 - 43
2007 - 589 - 274 - 315 - 75
2006 - 385 - 237 - 148 - 46
2005 - 379 - 338 - 41 - 46
2004 - 437 - 260 - 177 - 49
2003 - 348 - 238 - 110 - 39
2002 - 381 - 346 - 35 - 43
2001 - 371 - 272 - 99 - 43

2010 - 131 - 96 - 35 - 17
(x 4) - 524 - 384 - 140 - 68

Speculate!

From now to the end of season, I see the D becoming alot tighter, so I expect the points against to go down

Everyone keeps saying losing Moss is no big deal because during the "glory years" we had no deep threat.
Here are the stats from the last 10 years, with Super Bowls underlined and Super Bowl victories bolded.
Notice that the only time we allowed less points defensively was 06 where we lost in the AFCCG.
Our defense will surely settle down a bit, but can it settle down in to our "glory years" type defense? Heck no.
Our hope this year was for our offense to be overpowering and help carry our young defense.
I don't see how losing Moss helps us this year. Will it gain more experience for our young players so they are better next year? Sure. Will we be an absolutely crushing team on offense and defense in the next few years? Sure. But I just can't see how this helps us *this* year.

That third column is the problem. In SB years, they allowed less than 300 points (238 in 2003!!!!). This year, we are on pace to allow 384. That is more points than we scored in 01,02,03, 05 and one more than we scored in 06.

Just sayin'

Thos projected numbers would translate to 10 wins using pythagorean expectations.

Did the O look over powering vs the Jets? Do you think it will look overpowering against the Ravens and the Steeler defenses? It didn't look overpowering against the Phins either. With Moss this O has been anything but overpowering. It all now depends now on how they adjust the scheme to use the players they have.

Posted this in another thread but probably fits better here.

In 2001 a young defense learning how to play together allowed 23 or more points 5 times during the first 10 weeks of the season.
