P8ryts All Time Patriots team

I went with 2 TE’s and a FB because that’s my preference.

I went with a 3/4 defense just because.

I didn’t allow myself any ties although I was severely tempted to give myself an out.

Offense

QB Tom Brady

FB James Develin

TE Gronk

TE Ben Coates

WR Stanley Morgan

WR Julian Edelman

LT Bruce Armstrong

LG John Hannah

C Pete Brock

RG Logan Mankins

RT Sebastian Vollmer

Defense

RDE Richard Seymour

NT Vince Wilfork

LDE Trey Flowers

LOLB Willie McGinest

ILB Nick Buonoconti

ILB Tedy Bruschi

ROLB Andre Tippett

LCB Ty Law

RCB Raymond Clayborn

SS Rodney Harrison

FS Fred Marion

Special Teams

PR Troy Brown

KR Dave Meggett

K Adam Vinatieri

P Rich Camarillo

I won’t try to justify any of the controversial selections. This would be my team. Lot of great players left.

Sam Cunningham FB
Logan Mankins never played a snap at RG so using that logic I’d take Matt Light at RT over Vollmer
Julius Adams DE instead of Trey Flowers
Steve Nelson at MLB over Bonuconti whose great years were as a Dolphin
Mike Haynes at CB instead of Raymond Clayborn and make Clayborn the all-time KR over Maggott.
Devin McCourty was better than Fred Marion who’s an all-time fav of mine

All very good arguments. Had all those same thoughts. Just thought Mankins was clearly the best guard after Hannah so I did cheat there. Matt Light, Julius Adams, Steve Nelson, equally favorites of mine. Buoniconti had great years as a Patriot. His speed and reaction were great. I'm prejudiced against Haynes because he fell on his butt in the Oilers playoff game in 78' giving up an early TD. I do hold grudges. Same with Sam Cunningham running out of bounds in Oakland, stopping the clock. I was never a McCourty fan. Always a step slow in my mind. I would have gone Milloy or Chung ahead of him.

So pass every play from 2 TE and a FB without a RB?

Only going with players I've seen since watching in the early to mid 90's and only by the positions they actually play.

Offense:
QB: Tom Brady. No explanation needed. Loved Bledsoe who helped get them national attention.
RB: Curtis Martin. There still isn't a back that has come close to him. Given Dillon's age, we were lucky we even got one good year out of him.
FB: Sam Gash. Just his name gives him the edge. Loved the neck roll and was a beast of a blocker. James Develin is right up there as well.
WR. Randy Moss
WR. Terry Glenn
Slot: Wes Welker. Edelman was more clutch, but Welker was an absolute machine.
TE: Rob Gronkowski
TE: Ben Coates
LT: Bruce Armstrong.
LG: Logan Mankins
C: Dave Wohlabaugh. Pats have had some pretty mediocre C's, but feel he's the best of the bunch.
RG: Brian Waters. He was an insane pickup in 2011.
RT: Sebastian Vollmer. It's really not even close.

Defense:
DE: Richard Seymour
NT: Ted Washington
DT: Vince Wilfork
DE: Ty Warren
Edge: Chris Slade
MLB: Ted Johnson
MLB: Teddy Bruschi
Edge: Willie McGinest
CB: Ty Law
CB: Stephon Gilmore
Slot: Asante Samuel
FS: Willie Clay. He was named "Big Play" for a reason.
SS: Lawyer Milloy.

Special Teams:
K: Stephen Ghostowski. Everyone loves Vinatieri, but Ghost blows him out of the water statistically.
P: Tom Tupa
ST: Larry Whigham. Bro did it all.
KR: Ellis Hobbs. Extremely underrated returner.
PR: Troy Brown

If you put out an all time Patriots team and leave off John Hannah, I don't know what to even say.
If you read his post he said he is only including players he has seen since the mid 90s

These are always tough because everyone has their own criteria.
Is it best NFL career? Do you include Seau then?
Is it best Patriot career? So Edelman beats out Moss because he was here longer?
Is it best SB winning players since who cares about what didn’t produce a ring?
Is it best single season Patriots?

Ted Johnson on your list is a good example.
Before his injuries he was a beast of a MLB and belongs. But that didn’t last long and he was a liability after that. At his peak he’s in, unless you go with best career overall then you can’t put him ahead of Seau. And if you judge him in he whole Patriot career he’s not even close to consideration.

Another poster added him, but I’d like to highlight Ty Warren. Excellent player who might not have been flashy, but with whom you can go to war. Trusted, productive, selfless.

I know you would have a hard time arguing he ‘deserves to replace players listed on your roster’, but when you needed to win, it sure was fun to have D Branch on the field. Bye bye Steelers is still one of my all time fav plays.

It's who I think were the best players while they were with the Patriots no matter how long they were here for. For example, Curtis Martin was only here for 3 years, but played in mostly two. There's nobody I've liked better. Seau doesn't make the cut because he was cooked by the time he was in NE. I really wanted to put Rodney Harrison on the list, but I'd take a younger Lawyer Milloy during his stint than an older Rodney Harrison.

For Edelman, the question you should be asking is whether I'd take him over Welker? The answer is no.

Actually, I was initially going to put Stephen Neal at RG..

So, it's half of an all time team.

Yes, I almost put Warren instead of Flowers.

Brian Waters was great. Hated to see him leave. Ted Washington same thing. He is my all time favorite NT. I just didn't include them because of the 1-year thing. Stephon Gilmore was definitely a consideration. Forgot about Larry Whigham but I decided not to include a ST slot.

Great job. I did forget Sam Adams. You know your Patriots.

A youngun in our section Sunday was wearing a Tatupu throwback jersey. They were way to young for the fan club made me wonder if they were related.
I remember seeing that Sunday on tv.
