Actually this is exactly where Ryan belongs. Its been proven that his place certainly wasn't on the sidelines being a HC. I expect he will be entertaining and sometimes even inciteful at BSPN. I look forward to seeing what he has to offer when someone posts a clip of him in action. I certainly won't be watching him on TV.
At a time when they're running in losses and letting people go, they hire Rex. Sums up ESPN.

Well, Rex killed two franchises, so there's SOME similarity.I was much more uncomfortable when they hired Ray Lewis, who once killed a guy as I understand it.
seriously.... how can they ever afford all the "goddamn snacks" they will now need?

To be fair to many analysts on all the networks, they are often told to keep it dumb because the suits are deathly afraid that people will turn off in droves if they ever get remotely technical or spend more than several seconds explaining something.
A perfect example of that is Jaworski's time on ESPN MNF. As anyone who saw the old Matchup shows knows, Jaws knows his stuff. Yet when he was on MNF he was just another garden-variety moron. It's not like he forgot anything -- he was ordered to be like that.
Which is really too bad. When NFLN came into being I hoped that with 24 hours in a day to fill that there'd be a bunch of "technical" shows for football nerds, even if they only aired overnight and you had to record them. Also partly the reason why NFL Playbook was cancelled on NFLN. People have zero attention spans these days, so shows like this one that delve deep into the intracacies of plays and how they develop don't sit well with the HAWT TAKEZZZZZ shows du jour. That's why there are more panel shows than single host shows as well. Shame.
I'd also love (but I know it'd never happen) for NFLN (or the networks themselves) to have an alternate set of commentators at select games (preferably all games) who didn't dumb things down and you could use the SAP audio feature of broadcasts to listen to them instead of the regular commentators.
