No news on Mike's plea decision which was reportedly to have occurred by 9AM. But the other two have rolled on schedule. It would be fine to get closure on this, but part of me is hoping Mike remains just too stupid to.

PHILLIPS, PEACE ADMIT TO KILLING DOGS WITH VICK

In a statement of facts signed in connection with the guilty pleas entered on Friday morning by Purnell Peace and Quanis Phillips, Peace and Phillips admit to participating with Vick in the killing of eight dogs in April 2007, according to ESPN.

In our view, this means that Virginia authorities now have the green light to proceed with an indictment of Vick on eight counts of animal cruelty. Under Virginia law, he'd face up to 40 years behind bars, in addition to any federal prison term that he serves.

The alleged involvement in killing dogs is, in our view, proof positive that Vick will never be able to return to the NFL.

ESPN also reports that Phillips immediately was taken into custody because he failed a drug test while free on bond.

And I think that we now have our answer:

Vick IS toast.

The Smoking Gun has a copy of one of today's plea agreements up.

The first 9 pages of these plea agreements basically confirm what Taylor, who was out of it in recent years, stated in his earlier plea agreement. They put Mike at a couple of the actual fights. The last 3 pages deal with Mike's continued involvement with them in the enterprise from 2004 right up to the raid on the property. They stipulate that they AND Mike personally executed 8 dogs on the property a week before the raid after they failed when rolled or tested.

From the SMoking Gun....

In nearly identical fact summaries, both Phillips and Peace stated that the dogfighting ring's "operation and gambling monies were almost exclusively funded by Vick." Additionally, both men fingered Vick in the execution earlier this year of about eight dogs that performed poorly in test fighting sessions. Phillips and Peace each told investigators that Vick participated in killing the dogs, which were hung or drowned, and that the animals "died as a result of the collective efforts" of the trio.

In federal court before anyone can plead guilty to a crime, the prosecution must first provide to the judge a substainial basis for the guilty plea. That is where these statements come from. Also the defendant must also admit to the judge that he is pleading guilty because, he is in fact guilty.

Vick will never play another down in the NFL. I think the commissioner is going to ban him due to the illegal gambling activites (which would avoid the comparison of getting a much harsher punishment thana people killer such as Ray Lewis.

Vick is Elvis Patterson!!!!

This POS better be OVER. I don't ever want to see or hear of him in the NFL again after he does his jail time. I wish for every bad thing that could possibly happen to someone to happen to him.

This wasn't stipulated in the plea agreements, but according to a couple of reports a photo of Vick and his crew with "Jane" the female pit bull has been alluded to and may exist. And even more damming, there is a report that the 8 dogs were hung by the two co-defendants, but when 3 failed to die quietly Vick was called from the house to assist in drowning them. I suppose the huggers could try to spin that as his humane effort to end their suffering...

There are still Falcon fans in Atlanta who insist this is all just contrived heresay orchestrated by the prosecution to make poor Mike look bad...but fewer and fewer by the minute...it's down to the hardcore huggers who were always truly only ever Vick fans.

I feel sorry for Joey Harrington. From all reports, the fans in Atlanta are up in arms about Vick being prosecuted. Talk about having more pressure put on him, I'd wager Harrington gets death threats after a bad outing. Watched HBO's Real Sports on dog fighting the other night. Some of these losers would steal pets from people's homes and then maim the pets so that they would be at a disadvantage when prepping thier dog on going for the kill. These people are sick and cowards. Lock them up big time. Do you think the Commish gets a little more b.s. everytime a new fact comes out in regards to Vick's, I'm not involved response.

Poindexter has now announced that he will present his animal cruelty case to the Surry County Va Grand Jury in late September. That carries individual 5 year per count maximum sentences. Vick could also face charges in other states based on the plea's entered to date if some enterprising DA or AG wants the face time.

One of Vick's attorney's was reportedly on a local Atlanta station this hour stating that Vick has not agreed to a plea and there was no 9AM deadline - that the Feds want Mike to plead by the end of the week so they won't have to give him his day in court. It was apparently Meachum, the local lawyer who has been part of Mike's enabling crew all these many years. Reiterated what a shy, trusting animal lover Mike is - he's home fishing and tending his iguana's and horses (who should be removed from his custody...). Said Mike is not always in trouble, this is a FIRST OFFENSE (that went on for 6 years...) and blamed the media for demonizing him. Said Mike's decision is not just about this case, but effects his NFL career and his family. Keep the faith, Mike. By the time all is said and done, there will be no need to suspend you since even QB's don't play in their mid 40's...

I wouldn't be surprised to see Billy Martin bow out of this cluser**** in the coming days. He's likely the lawyer who is trying to sell the plea deal to his moron client, while Meachum is the one still assuring Mike they can get him off because they always did before... Martin's job (and reputation) is to be the savvy Washington lawyer who gets his clients the best possible deal. He'll want no part of this exercise in futility. If and when Mike gets convicted on these charges and those in the superceding indictment, Meachum should volunteer to serve his time with him. He'll need a full time lawyer where he's going in case he's just to shy or sweet to say no to Big Bubba's advances...

Vick IS toast no matter how you butter it. I haven't read all the post on this thread, but no matter what he does he's all done. I think he just can't bring himself to take the lesser of two evils and plead out. He probably relizes the second he says to the judge "I plead guilty your honor" he knows his carrer is over.

Shy, trusting animal lover...that lawyer gives all lawyers a bad name. Does he think the public are total idiots?

I agree that any animal in Vick's "care" should be removed immediately.
