One of the most interesting parts is that the NFLPA never contacted him. I think that is indicative of how dysfunctional the NFLPA is. If the "leaders" of the NFLPA don't give a damn about players retiring early due to injury, why should the players give a damn about the Union. As Borland points out. He shelled out 10K and hears nothing from them?

Borland looked like a dynamic player in 2014. He was very productive and looked like he was going to be a borderline-impact linebacker. That's what adds to the intrigue of his retirement -- he was good.

At one point the San Francisco linebacker corp consisted of Aldon Smith, Patrick Willis, Navarro Bowman, Chris Borland, and Aaron Lynch. In the span of basically one year, Bowman tore his ACL, Willis and Borland unexpected retired, and Smith continued to be an absolute idiot and cut himself cut from the team. And now Lynch was suspended for a banned substance. It's quite remarkable how quickly things went south for that group.
