Nobody is trading a franchise LT
Laremy Tunsil, Trent Williams, Cam Robinson. Those are LT's that were traded in just the last 5 years. While it's nearly impossible for teams to trade such LT's, it's not "Nobody is trading a franchise LT".

Cam robinson not a franchise LT
Williams refused to play for redskins anymore
Tunsil is exception, but Texans traded a haul for him
Not sure Dolphins would still do that in 25

My point is: You can't state with intellectual honesty that it NEVER happens. I conceded that's it's usually unlikely. But to say that it NEVER happens is incorrect. And that's not going back to such trades in the last decade or two. That's all I was saying.

True. I was being a bit hyperbolic. But the general principle is true

No worries (not that you had reason to be). You're general premise was sound. It's very rare. This team is going to have to think and move outside of the box, while being smart about it at the same time. It's frustrating to have such high draft picks and the most cap space, and yet it's a draft that doesn't have a Joe Alt and FA that doesn't have a LT or WR's that are young and solid enough to spend that money on. FA and the Draft just got a whole lot more interesting (frustrating) than it already was.

Do you think the Chargers would accept a trade for him (depending on who they have on their OL Roster). Giving them our #4, them giving us their 1st Round Pick, 2nd Round Pick and whatever else would make that trade happen)? I don't know what their cap situation is, or will be after next season. I'm just wondering if it's something to actually look into.
90.6m in cap space this year, second behind us, and 172m next year...

Harbaugh has cleared the decks as he revamps the roster

At this time no, neither Slater nor the Chargers seem to be unhappy with one another. It’s worth more to the Chargers to keep their franchise QB Herbert protected and to keep his LT Slater happy. I’d be surprised if he wasn’t extended before next offseason.

And there's a 99.999% chance that he will be retained.

I'm at the point where I'm just throwing poop at the wall and seeing what sticks!

Ultimately, whichever OT or OT's as the case may be that we do draft this year, it's my hope that one or more of them (Yes, I'm greedy), becomes one of those OT's that were late 1st to UDFA players whom other teams outright salivate over the prospect of obtaining as FA's from us (although like other teams, we never let them go).

I think it will be more like:

New LT
New LG
New C
Onwenu RG
Wallace RT (or new)
You have much more faith in the ability to find quality starters in free agency and the draft.

HOWEVER, I suspect that Vrabel will do his best to do as you wish. His priorities are likely to be the trenches plus an OLB.

It’s been surprising how many free agents have decided to pass on free agency the past couple of years.
Yes, I suppose that it is surprising that teams have realized that they should do what they can to satisfy their star players,

We need four OL starters for the future. It is NOT greedy to expect us to draft 2 or 3 or even 4 OL prospects.

We'll know a lot more by Draft Day. We shall see how many free agents we can get that have much potential to be starters in 2026 or 2027.

That’s not surprising, what’s surprising is guys not pushing the envelope by getting more bidders, which has generally been the way agents deal with teams.

Sign some value vets, 2 or 3 of them if need be. Draft a OT or two… take multiple bites at the apple.

I don’t get the consternation over not being able to overpay a 30 year old OT.

I posted in the other thread - an idea for a not-too-expensive new starting setup:

LT - Dan Moore
LG - Teven Jenkins
C - Drew Dalman
RG - Mike Onwenu
RT - Morgan Moses

Shouldn’t tie up too much cap short or long term. Moses is insurance in case Wallace can’t secure the starting RT job. The group should suffice for a few years, assuming Wallace takes RT job. Goal would be to draft and develop replacements for most of these guys over time.
