OT: Sheldon Brown wants trade

Looks like they're not exactly psyched that Asante got that contract...

Players can't have it both ways. You either resign early to get security, or you wait till FA to get max dollars. Brown did the first, Asante did the second.

Unfortunately, they probably can in many cases. Philly at one point in time were smart to get these deals done early, but it is starting to come back to bite them now. Salaries are escalating and players are now demanding new contracts with 3 and even 4 years left on their deals. Many of them are holding out or forcing trades and getting their wishes.

Brown may not get his wish this year, but I bet if he has a good year this year he will be traded and get a new deal next year.

I dunno, Philly is in a situation where they're either going to have to stand Pat, of they're going to lose half their roster to this. I think Brown gets told to screw, honestly. If Brown gets resigned/moved, theres too many players on that team who will want the same thing.

Lombardi had some thoughts on this in his Morning Talk. It's the signing of expensive FA by both clubs that upset the salary structure in their locker rooms. That's the risk you take in persuing that kind of deal, and he said the top rookie deals are fraught with the same peril. In one case you're paying someone who hasn't shown he can do it for you and in the other you're paying someone who hasn't shown he can do it at all in full view of guys who feel they been doin' it for you all along...

NcNabb already has his name permanently etched on that list... Philly could be heading for another season of discontent. Teams that aren't all on the same page tend to fall apart when adversity strikes. Teams that weather adversity and even triumph over it have a core who are all in who pull the others through.

This is getting ridiculous, 4 years left on your contract and you complain? Screw that. Whatever happened to keeping your word and honoring your contract?

Reid has already commented on this. He's not buying Brown's line so far:

It is only in the most extraordinary, in fact, less than a handful of circumstances in the last ten years that any players two new years into a contract with three years left have been adjusted. We don't think this qualifies as an extraordinary circumstance.

"Sheldon's comments under the circumstances actually serve to devalue him in a trade if we were willing to consider it; which we are not."

This is a cautionary tale from the football gods..... Bring in a high priced star from another team to add to an already stacked unit...... Bring anybody to mind?

This is exactly what would happen if Peppers came here (much to my dismay).
The biggest difference here is that the iggles secondary was/is already locked up in contracts... we have most of our D-line coming up for contracts....making our situation much more volatile.

I would love it, but the warning signs are too great to ignore

And less not forget the Eagles made Jason Peters - the same guy in Buffalo who was disgruntled over his contract, skipped the entire TC/preseason, and subsequently dogged it AND held the Bills locker room hostage throughout last season - the HIGHEST paid LT in the league.

Didn't Philly goes through this with another "disgruntled" player once upon a time ago? *shrugs* I guess history repeats itself.

Honestly - I don't blame Sheldon at all.

is that what happened when they signed adalius thomas?

this brown **** is ridiculous --- he's a whiny biznatch.
if I was the team I'd tell him to pay back his signing bonus and gtfo.

they should pay every one of these ****ers on a year to year basis tied strictly to performance, then maybe they'd be happier.

Another thing - since TO got booted out of town, that team hasn't stopped complaining(i.e. Michael Lewis gets booted out of town one minute, the next McNabb is whining, the next Westbrook wants more $$$$ DESPITE not showing signs he can stay healthy, the next Lito Sheppard is shown the door, and now Brown is likely "Come on Down...You are the Next Contestant!", etc).

The post-TO era also hit SF hard. We'll see how Dallas does from here on out.
