OT: Seymour blows off team meeting!

If I am Davis I give Cowher the sky to become HC - I do think Billick is looking more and more like a potential victim...err I mean Raiders HC

The problem with your proposal is that it makes too much sense- which is what Al Davis lost about 20 years ago.

I think your headline would have gotten the point accross just fine. "Seymour thinks he is more special than the rest of his team", "Seymour only in it for the payday", "Seymour wants special treatment", "rules don't apply to Seymour", any of these would have been fine really.

Yeah, other than the whole "not applying" and all.

Perhaps "Poster finds nothing to bash Seymour about, but does it anyway" would have been a more appropriate title.

Re: Seymour blow off team meeting !

With Welker on IR can New England sign Richard Seymour as a UFA and activate him for the playoffs?

Not eligible for another two months I believe.

It would be hilarious if the Pats resign Seymour in the offseason. The Raiders really can't franchise Seymour unless they get a deal done with Kirk Morrison before the start of free agency (or the franchise period). They can't afford to loss Morrison more than they can't afford to lose Seymour. Seymour isn't going to stay with the Raiders without being franchised.

According to PFT.com, every Raider was in attendance for the season ending meeting except for Jamarcus Russell and Richard Seymour. I hope the Raiders enjoyed their 5 wins and Richard's 4 sacks. Oh by the way, thanks for the first round pick, good luck with the Seymour holdout !

( and congratulations on the 5 -11 playoff prediction big Sey !)
Yes, I never understood this trade from the Raiders POV. Still, I'm glad they made it. Imagine the Patriots w/Seymour. Yikes!

Ha, no.

If that was even remotely possible, why would teams wait to put someone on IR? They would just release player X and sign big name free agent Y. Before any non-playoff team could have a chance. You would have seen some playoff team signing Cassel last year, etc.

But no, contracts don't expire until the end of the league year in late February/early March.

Can you imagine the contortions some people here would have to do with how they've treated Seymour?

Re: Seymour blow off team meeting !

I think Al Davis is determined to bless us in every way possible. Keep it up and get us a Top 10 pick, Al.

Re: Seymour blow off team meeting !

I wonder if this year in Oakland has changed his priorities a bit, take a little less money and play somewhere you can be happy. Probably won't be NE, but anywhere other than Oakland is a step in the right direction. Of course, the Raiders are almost guaranteed to franchise him....it's the only way they can save face with the trade.

Don't even know why Cable attended the meeting,He won't be there either.

:eat3: .... good one ... you've been very on lately.

Seriously, I think a coaching change helps us ... especially if they clean house.

Seymour is not stupid ... he knows he really can't be there for the money he wants.

"Still think we need Seymour?" would turn into "Still think we don't need Seymour?". It would be absolutely epic.

Sometimes I skip some threads but i think I'm missing something here.. You're saying that Seymour can walk because the Raiders can't franchise him?

Re: Seymour blow off team meeting !

Yeah.... I didn't watch enough of their games to get a feel for the job Crable was doing. However, in the games I did watch, the QB position was an absolute killer for that team. For goodness' sakes, that offense ran better with Gradkowski and Frye, and those two aren't exactly going to terrorize the NFL.

The Raiders beat the Ravens yesterday if not for Charlie Frye getting hurt. I watched the game with a poor friend of mine who happens to be a lifelong Raiders fan and watches every one of their games, and he said that the real shame is that they're a good football team if they can even get JAG-level play out of the QB. They were beating good teams with Gradkowski, FFS. Just goes to show how historically bad Russell is. The guy will never be an NFL QB. Just isn't going to happen, and the longer they wait around for it, the more damage they do.

Makes it all the more perplexing that they jettisoned Jeff Garcia, I guess. If they start the season with him at QB, they're in the playoffs IMO.

A lot more likely that Seymour heads on over to wherever Crennel ends up, imo (likely KC). After the way the Pats blindsided him with the trade, I can't imagine that he wouldn't have some major misgivings with them.

They can franchise him, but both he and Kirk Morrison are free agents. Morrison has been their leading tackler for 3 years straight. He has had over 134 tackles two years running. He is also almost three years younger than Seymour. He is a higher priority to resign than Seymour. If they can't get Morrison to agree to a deal prior to the end of the franchise tender period, they will probably have to franchise him and let Seymour walk.

One thing I didn't realize though was that he completed his fifth year, not his sixth year. If there is no CBA, he would be a RFA and then they could franchise Seymour. If there is a new CBA, Seymour could very well walk unless Al Davis worries more about his pride than building a winner and allows Morrison to potentially leave to franchise Seymour.

Seymour may not want to go to KC just because Pioli's time could be numbered over there. I could see him coming back to the Patriots if the Pats gave him a competitive contract and he felt the Pats were the best chance to win a Super Bowl. One thing he did realize while in Oakland was how much more professional the team was run.

Re: Seymour blow off team meeting !

That team is a quarterback away from playoff contention. Unfortunately for that team and its fans, rumors are that Davis wants to stick with Russell.

Very true, here's to hoping Davis sticks with Russell.

He won't be back here for the same reason he wasn't going to be back here before he was traded... They aren't interested in paying him anything approaching what he thinks he's worth on the open market. Pioli was part of that process, so I don't think he'll be landing in KC, either. And Pioli will be there at least another 3-4 seasons... And I can't imagine Al letting him go for nothing after trading a first for him. Al can be vindictive. He kept franchising that cornerback who wouldn't play for him...and he still owes a couple of his former employees some coin after he canned them...even Shanny.

Well, Seymour's value has taken a hit after this season. He might come with a lower price tag at this point.

Seymour will be very well compensated to play football next season. He'll likely have offers from the Broncos, Jets and others if the Raiders don't franchise him to keep him off the market. Also, if the Chiefs decide to move Dorsey because they decide that he won't work long-term in the 3-4, Seymour could also land there.
