OT: Schefter - Denver Trades for Vernon Davis

It's a good move in the sense that they didn't have to give up much, but there are people seriously panicking about them getting a guy who has very little (if anything at all) left in the tank?
Don't see any panic here...

Nope.

1) The Broncos almost never throw seam routes anymore.
2) Thomas and Sanders cause problems for everyone.
3) Vernon Davis should be pretty good in that offense, but am I worried about losing a game because of Vernon Davis? No.
4) Daniels and Hillman are absolute JAGs, and I'm not really sure why I should be afraid of them.

Also, the Broncos have no one who can cover Gronkowski. Or Lewis. Or Chandler in the red zone. Nobody. Talib and Harris are good players, but I'm not as concerned, since the Patriots aren't going to be running go routes and 30-yard outs all night like the Packers did.

Daniels torched the Pats in the playoffs last year with the Ravens. Him, Smith and Forsett walked up and down the field against our D, with an added Revis and Browner to boot. He's certainly no Gronk, but far from a JAG and matches up well against our secondary.

Gronk is a matchup nightmare for every team much like Thomas/Sanders, but Denver's D certainly has an edge over ours at the time being. Miller/Ware on Flemming/Canon gives me chills. Our game plan may mean little if Brady is pressured consistently.

We'll see. Honestly should be the game of the year.

I don't disagree (although you have a higher opinion of Owen Daniels than I do).

It was a good trade for Denver. They're going to win a lot of games.

I don't care about the wins. They were going to do that anyway. What I care about is that, in a matchup of Broncos/Patriots they just found a player who will likely result in more pressure on the Patriots defensive weakness*.

Indeed the Broncos have nobody who can cover Gronk. But they do have a couple of guys who will shamelessly take cheap shots at his knees. That genuinely worries me.

Elway loves "marquis" names.
Buffalo loves "marquis" names.
Yawn.
Vernon Davis have been a non factor for three years and did nothing to raise Kapperstink's level of play......yet he will now raise Flutterball Mannings?
Marquis?

It resembles something that could technically be considered blocking.

(In other words, no. But that's not what they got him for)

Davis used to be one of the best blocking TEs in the league. He's probably not at that level anymore, but he's certainly no slouch.

the only potential losses for denver are against NE, cincinatti and oakland.

Hes not close to what he was. 49ers fans have been squawking about that for a while .

4 catches on 11 targets for 41 yards.

Ya really "torched" them.

He beat Chung on several big plays included a tough TD with 10 seconds left in the second quarter that put them ahead by 7 at halftime instead of 3. He's also had a few good games against the Pats when he played for Kubiak in Houston.

If the Broncos get 2009/2010/2013 Davis, this is an excellent move. If they get every other season Davis, meh. He's always struck me as a physically gifted nut job. Low risk, high reward so that alone makes it a good trade.

I'm going to steal a joke I heard elsewhere:

Vernon Davis actually retired two years ago but didn't tell anyone.

I wonder how much money the move this costs them. Nobody talks about it, just curious how much they spent on a potential half-season rental.

This team is desperate to win now. Not that this is a desperate move. But this is probably Mannings last year (or effective one) and its do or die.

Absolutely. This is probably the final year of Peyton and the GM will buy what it takes to get Peyton another SB ring.

He caught 4 passes while being targeted 11 times. Pats won that matchup.
