Sherlock is garbage. I mean, I love it, do not doubt that. I've rewatched it a few times and enjoyed it every time but I wince at calling it well-written.
You mistook my meaning by a wide mark. It isn't good crime writing, it's good Holmes writing. OFC the actual 'crime scenarios' are rubbish, they are meant to be. That doesn't keep the very clever way various Arthur Conan Doyle plots from multiple stories get woven into one tale from being quite good. The pastiche is both an homage and a send up. Also, at least to me, the best writing in any series shows in the dialogue which usually shines in Sherlock.
I put it in the same class with Justified, another series I really enjoy even though the scenarios are preposterous. In both cases the fundamental purpose of the storylines are to place the main characters in the right situation to deliver great dialogue.
