Kinda surprised by some of these reactions....
Bullying a journalist is complete BS.
Think about what we do on this forum.
Free speech is free speech.
Just keep your effing distance, psych steroid guy.Nowhere did I say the press doesn't have it's rights. Just pointing out that they aren't the only one with rights. You have the right to write it and I have the right to be mad about it and give you dirty looks over it.
Most of the material advantages that you depend on to make it possible to do whatever you want wouldn't exist is the press were kept from shining the light.
I'm not surprised by the reaction here at all. Since 2008 the Patriots have suffered a deluge of false and inaccurate reporting and attempts to get their story out have been largely ignored. What once barely passed for professional reporting has been replaced by TMZ styled blurbs looking to sensationalize and gain as much attention as possible while ignoring facts and making no attempt to get to the truth. And while I have always supported real journalism and the safeguards that protected it I can certainly understand why people no longer feel a responsibility to protect and respect those when the media has abdicated all of their professional responsibilities in return for clicks and ratings. I find it hard to get upset over media members and "journalists"
Being treated poorly when they are largely to blame for people losing all respect for them. And a great example of why they find themselves in this situation is the one where Mortenson published outright lies and left them hanging out there despite clear evidence they were lies and rather than call bullsh.t on him and his lies his colleagues refused to answer questions about it and instead lauded him for his great work and professionalism. So while I can understand the dangers of having a media that cannot report freely I cannot help but feel that they have brought this on themselves by abdicating all of their professional responsibilities of their own accord.
Great post. I agree. It's not a easy issue. I'm disenfranchised with all levels of the press as well. Quality, integrity, ethics, etc.
No question that Freedom of the Press is a double-edged sword.
With that's said, I'd still have it as being able to report information than not at all and let the public decide what is and should be reported as news.
The key to making this work is that the public needs to think on its own and not be satisfied with being spoon-fed info and accept it as truth.
That IMO is where things are going in the wrong direction.
This.
The point is, if the Packers were hiding a domestic violence incident with one of their players, it's a big story.

I posted the full article because certain paragraphs wouldn't make sense by themselves and save you all the time to click and read. Anyways, this doesn't sound too good, and although it's word against word, the allegation to me is most likely truthful. Don't want to jump to any actual conclusions, just thought I'd post it and see what you all think.
It seems to you that MOST newspaper reporters are bad and good ones are the exception? Really? Again, I suggest you and anyone else here tempted to paint with such ignorantly broad strokes take care to distinguish between "reporter" and "columnist," as there is a very important distinction to be made between those whose jobs are to report facts and those whose jobs are to offer interpretive opinion.Nor do I subscribe to Tune's assertion that the Reputations of Car Salesmen and Reporters are sullied by "a few bad apples." Seems to me that the good apples are the Exception, not the Rule.
How would anyone here feel if a "journalist" showed up at their place of work asking them or their co workers about a purported domestic violence issue?
These analogies are always ridiculous because no one here is a public figure.
So it's OK to harass people at work if they are "public figures?"

As much as anyone, I resent certain columnists enough not to read them. But saying most reporters are bad at what they do is as ridiculous as claiming the same with any profession. For every Tomase (the baddest apple we've ever seen here) there are a thousand others who get it right every day.
Sadly I no longer believe that's the case. Since the FCC allowed corporations to incorporate news departments into their entertainment divisions I do like the best majority of media is heard towards attention and entertainment and most of those with actual ethics and integrity have been either disenfranchised of driven out of the industry altogether. Show me an honest news outlet and I will show you unicorns and my sex tape with Scarlet Johansen and Jessica Alba.
Seriously- can anyone point to any honest media outlet? I know I can't.
