I'm not surprised by the reaction here at all. Since 2008 the Patriots have suffered a deluge of false and inaccurate reporting and attempts to get their story out have been largely ignored. What once barely passed for professional reporting has been replaced by TMZ styled blurbs looking to sensationalize and gain as much attention as possible while ignoring facts and making no attempt to get to the truth. And while I have always supported real journalism and the safeguards that protected it I can certainly understand why people no longer feel a responsibility to protect and respect those when the media has abdicated all of their professional responsibilities in return for clicks and ratings. I find it hard to get upset over media members and "journalists"
Being treated poorly when they are largely to blame for people losing all respect for them. And a great example of why they find themselves in this situation is the one where Mortenson published outright lies and left them hanging out there despite clear evidence they were lies and rather than call bullsh.t on him and his lies his colleagues refused to answer questions about it and instead lauded him for his great work and professionalism. So while I can understand the dangers of having a media that cannot report freely I cannot help but feel that they have brought this on themselves by abdicating all of their professional responsibilities of their own accord.

Nowhere did I say the press doesn't have it's rights. Just pointing out that they aren't the only one with rights. You have the right to write it and I have the right to be mad about it and give you dirty looks over it.

Most of the material advantages that you depend on to make it possible to do whatever you want wouldn't exist is the press were kept from shining the light.

The media stopped shining lights a long time ago, now they just try to stay on the good side of the status quo. There is no real news anymore, only reporting as entertainment for the sake of ratings. I turned off all of the major "news" networks years ago and have been happier for it. It's all agenda driven bullsh.t, the real truth rarely sees the light of day and is largely scoffed at when it does.

No question that Freedom of the Press is a double-edged sword.

With that's said, I'd still have it as being able to report information than not at all and let the public decide what is and should be reported as news.

The key to making this work is that the public needs to think on its own and not be satisfied with being spoon-fed info and accept it as truth.

That IMO is where things are going in the wrong direction.

IMO its a HUGE issue.

An executive with an NFL team was intimidating and bullying a journalist because he did not want a domestic violence story on a particular player to see the light of day.

I don't disagree about people thinking for themselves but don't see it happening, I also feel that the media themselves have brought this on themselves by being patently dishonest and not caring in the least about their ethics and responsibilities. I was always a strong believer in the rights of the media but it's hard to sustain that when they openly abuse those rights and responsibilities and there is no accountability for that. Basically my empathy for the media has disappeared and has that been Join Clayton and the 285 lb Packers employee had kicked his ass instead of invading his space I would have laughed and cheered and been glad he got what was coming to him. I will still stand up for media members who actually have integrity but I will laugh like hell if Mortenson finds himself on the wrong end of a beating.

If some scumbag was vandalizing my car and I caught him and accidentally broke his arms I would feel as bad as I would if Tom Brady accidentally backed over Bart Hubbach or Gary Tanguay, who have routinely vandalized his reputation.
