OT: Official 2020 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Yeah, it’s a real thing. The season was almost too surreal...Gronk, Fournette, and Brown all sign with Tampa because of Tom and then score all the touchdowns in the Super Bowl. Like - can that be a real story?

I just hope the Bucs don’t experience the sack artist effect. Derek Rivers would have feasted on Mahomes in the Super Bowl too. I rarely see a team pay market for a DE or OLB and not have buyer’s remorse. Frank Clark was the $22M man for the Chiefs, got his SaCk and made almost zero difference in the game.
It's concerning that Barrett didn't do much when Vea was out. He went beast mode once Vea came back, and was also very good in 2019, with Vea there of course. So that gives me pause.

Hmm... I didn't feel sad, knowing that Brady and Gronk on the Patriots 2020 roster would have been watching from the couch yesterday, too.

The Tampa D-line, linebackers, secondary, and O-line were all awesome. The Patriots might have a comparable secondary and O-line, but no way the front 7 (really, front 6, these days) puts that kind of pressure on Mahomes. No way that any WRs make the plays that TB's did, either.

There is a roster talent gap which Bill must fix, and that clearly bothered Tom.

Same, i wasn't sad at all.. It would have been more sad to watch Brady waste the last 2 years of his career here with a depleted roster, looking miserable and not enjoying the sport

He looks like a little kid again out there, you can see the genuine joy and excitement in his face and the genuine excitement he has for all of his teammates as well

Super happy for both of them, they deserve it!

If Brady returned, Gronk would have probably come back. Also, the only chance Brady returned is if the Pats pulled off the trade for Diggs, which they backed out of because the price was too high. With Brady, Gronk, and Diggs, I think we could have competed with anyone. Maybe the Pats wouldn't have been able to put pressure on Mahomes but Belichick would have schemed us to victory over the Chiefs as he almost did earlier in the year. We missed out on #7.

They came out of the half running it and doing so effectively, then they abandoned it. Did they even PA? Their entire offense appears to be Mahomes flinging it wildly into triple coverages and hoping for magic. The one pass where he goes horizontal that everyone is raving about, there were four (4) Bucs waiting for it.

On the other side, I don't think there was one ball that Brady threw that a DB could've picked (the INT was a weird deflection).
In order for PA to work, you have to be able to run the ball effectively. KC, wisely IMO, didn’t even try. Waste of a down. Especially with the MASH unit they had up front. The draw was effective for maybe 3 plays. PA wouldn’t have fooled anyone especially with those safeties as deep as they were. All it would have done is add more sacks and hits to the tally Mahomes already took that night.

at what point can we move this thread off the main page into an OT forum, where it belongs?

Considering we don’t have anything close to Vea gives me pause too. Smart thing for him is to stay in Tampa surrounded by all that talent. And if he leaves for more money let someone else pay it.

The Murray thing bugs me just for the fact that it would have been Brady’s 15th Pro Bowl which would have set the record.
It bugs me because even at that time, he was barely a top 10 QB. By the end of season, he wasn't even in the top 10.

The other 5 QBs, I could at least understand. But still, Brady should have been about 4th in the pecking order not 6th if he was picked over Murray.

After each SB, the media says Brady is the GOAT but soon disrespects him again. Leading up to the SB, they were already talking about Mahomes being the Goat once he wins his 2nd one and talking about how long it will take before he passes all Brady's records including SB wins lol.

Something is very wrong here...I think the market will correct it soon.

Funny because Vegas lost their shirt by taking a ton of money before the season on Tampa Bay with like 20:1 odds...followed by two Super Bowl bets for about $5M.

The Rams are almost as likely to win as the Bucs? Really?

As for the Packers, they play the AFC North and NFC West. I’ve already posted on the Bucs extra sugary cake second-place schedule that looks like a 13-win floor.

Bucs should be like 5:1. They’re going to be so stacked next year with everyone gelling.

James White is a free agent and he said he's looking forward to free agency for the first time in his career. All it takes is one call from Brady and he's there. Edelman will most likely get cut and guess where he's going...

I can definitely see James White going to Tampa, but honestly I don't think Edelman will even be able to make that roster unless they have a significant injury to one of their top 4 WRs. I guess a lot could depend on what happens with Godwin as well, he may have reduced his price tag slightly with all the drops in the playoffs, but hes still going to cost a small fortune

Also, Tampa has shown the way for NE to be a contender again.

NE has struck out in the top rounds for too many years and now the cupboard is bare. They need to hit on the high draft picks over several years to get their Wirfs, Winfield, Vea, White, etc. Once they have the young core, then get the veterans to put them over the top.

I think that it will be a 3 year rebuild. In the meantime, many will enjoy watching Tompa and the Gronkaneers compete for SBs. Then when they retire, it will be just in time for the Pat's to compete again.

TB will hold the fort and stomp on Chiefs dynasy aspiration. Then after they are done. The King (pats) will be back and knock out these usurpers for good.

So imo Pat's are going to year 2 of 3 year rebuild. Imagine in 2023, Rodgers playing for the Pats as FA. He wants to play into his 40s and he saw the TB template first hand. That would be insane.
