OT: Official 2020 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Samuels would have been good. We were like 30th 31st passing defense in 2010-2011

To this day there is bad blood between him and Belichick so I don’t think he was ever sticking around. The problem was we went forward striking out at every player we tried to replace him with until we traded for Talib.

Also 2013 Welker wouldn’t have given us anything better than what Edelman ended up giving us. The big second guess is why we signed Amendola over another veteran receiver with a different skill set that would have better balanced the offense but considering how vital he was in playoff games in following years I’d say it worked out.

The biggest reason for the 10 year drought were mostly injuries and bad luck. The roster lacking in talent is a distant third. The roster only ever outright lacked the talent to win it all in 2005, 2006, 2009, and 2013. It was really really lucky that we made it as far as we did in 2006 and 2008 doesn’t count for obvious reasons.

He recently admitted on Terrell Owens's YouTube channel that he wanted to leave the Pats after the 2006 season. He didn't like Bill and claims he held Samuel back.
There was no need to let Welker walk for the same money we were offering. Clearly we pissed him off
I don't think Welker would've been the difference in 2013 as he had two straight seasons of back breaking drops in the playoffs. I was ready to let him walk. I absolutely hated letting Givens walk and then trading Branch.

2012 in particular flies under the radar as perhaps the biggest missed opportunity. Everyone remembers the loses in the Super Bowl and everyone remembers the Jets loss in 2010 and of course the loss in 2006. Id argue that 2006 was a fluke and we shouldn’t have even been in the title game. But in 2012 that team was really damn good and had one hell of an offense when both TEs were on the field together with Welker, Lloyd, Vereen, and Ridley as the RB. And the defense while young finally had some talent and Talib made them respectable. If Gronk doesn’t break his arm on one of the most ridiculously flucky plays ever and Talib doesn’t decide to check out because he pulled something that team was the best in the NFL.

2013 on the other hand I don’t care if we had Welker and I don’t care if Gronk stayed healthy that Broncos team was a wagon and no one was beating whoever came out of the NFC that year.

The 10 year drought never happens had they retained some key guys.
The one that REALLY pissed me off was letting Jabar Gaffney walk. He gave us 450-500 yards per year for 2 years at a fantastic 12 yard per reception in limited snaps. We offered him $2m and he left for $2.5m or something. It PISSED me off. And he did 700-900 yards next 3 years and was an amazing value pickup by Broncos. BB’s penny pinching can bite back as well.

Probably your worst take ever

He never played with Manning. F**cking hell man at least if you are gonna do your "$h1t on BB" routine at least be right about what you are talking about. He went to Denver because McDaniels sold him on having a bigger role than he had in NE behind Moss & Welker.

But by all means continue spewing $h1t without actual facts

Sorry, but I was done with him after the 3rd down chain moving drop against the Ravens in the 2nd half with the lead that would've put them in the Ravens territory. Offense went to s*** after that.

He was not going to put them over the top against the Broncos in 2013. But he sure as hell made an impact knocking Talib out of the game.

In the playoffs, from the 2010 - 2012 season, Welker caught 74% of all passes sent his way. In 2011, he caught 19 of 23 targets. In 2012, he racked up over 100 yards in both games, and was the only receiver on the team to reach 100 in either. So being "done" with him is idiotic.

He dropped them when it mattered.

That's beyond silly. It's the playoffs. They all matter.
Look at the show show Edelman put on against the "Legion of Boom" two years later.

You do realize that Edelman's had bad drops in the playoffs, right?
Was he not a major reason for their comeback? He did it again in 2016. Welker was out of the league.

I'm not even sure what we're arguing as my initial argument was he wouldn't have helped the Pats enough in 2013.

Yeah I had to think about that one for a second.

Edelman caught only 5 of 13 targets in the SB against Atlanta. In terms of catch percentage, that was the second worst playoff game of his NFL career.

Let's just put that aside because that argument is irrelevant to my initial argument. You think Welker would've helped the Pats take out the Broncos in 2013?

Before anyone ever tries to use the injury excuse for the Pats in 2013 the two best defensive players on the Broncos tore their ACLs that same year.
