OT: NFL Week 5 Other Games

Pete after someone reminded him how similar it looked to a certain scenario.

Once Brady left, I remember thinking ‘Wilson would be the ideal guy to come to NE, but they’ll never let that kind of star walk’.

(I was wrong, on both counts)

To think there was a lot of talk locally over the last year or so about seriously considering trading Mac Jones, a first rounder, and other picks for Russell Wilson and give him a monster contract. Thank God, Belichick and Kraft didn't listen.

Russell Wilson is going to destroy the Broncos for the foreseeable future. They traded away much of their future to get him and they gave him a top of the market contract that there is no way to cut him for at least the next three years. They probably cannot cut him until 2026 (that is according to Sportrac). And even then, they are going to have to eat $31 million worth of dead money.

Right now, Wilson is a below average QB. The Broncos gave up two firsts, two seconds, a fifth, and several players for him and gave him a five year, $242 million contract with $124 million guaranteed. This could replace the Herschel Walker trade or Ditka trading away the entire draft to draft Ricky Williams as the worst trade in NFL in NFL history. It was certainly a make up call for the Seahawks for their ridiculously bad trade for Jamal Adams.

Diminutive QB, listed at 5'11", who no longer scampers.....
No shidt Denver is horrendous in the red zone passing game, little guy can't see over the trees

Why the Denver OC didn't ramp up more screen passes defied logic. The few they did run were chunk plays.
Charlie Weiss would have toyed with those over-aggressive D lines and screen passed them both to death.

In fairness, WRs were blanketed on both sides and each team's D line feasted on the other's O line

Indy vs NE....a contrast in franchise philosophy
Indy has gone the washed up/former franchise QB route vs NE who chose to develop a young Corker.
NE's path appears sounder.....when you look past the win totals (sadly)

I love that the longest play for either team was an amazing dog’s breakfast of a mess:

1) Denver messes up the routes so bad that they have two receivers converging on the same spot 45 yards downfield.
2) Wilson just throws it up for grabs anyway.
3) The ref is so confused on where these disoriented receivers are going that he trips trying to get out of their way.
4) The Colt safety who is tracking the ball the whole way for an interception (or at least an easy break up) is tripped by the fallen ref.
5) The receivers pretty much collide and fall down right as the ball seemingly just falls into one of their hands for the long reception.

That was some serious Clouseau-level physical comedy for our enjoyment! But seriously, until the final play, that was the football equivalent of a thrilling 0-0 tie in an obscure, low-level European soccer league. They should have declared it a tie halfway through overtime out of mercy for the viewers…

I don't get Indy's strategy. I can see getting an older QB as a stopgap while you try to develop a young QB that you drafted. But Indy just seems to want to go from one older, declining QB to the next without drafting a potential QB of the future. The highest they drafted a QB since Luck retired was the fourth round. I get that Wentz is young, but he was no guarantee to be good. But both Rivers and Ryan were/are stopgap QBs.

GM is starting to worry about his job and not thinking about the future?

Since 2020:
Indy has 22 wins, NE has 18

Which GM should be more worried?

Boy that Bronco Defense have been wasted for years and the beat goes on. Really thought KC was going to be challenged in that West but it's not looking like it now.
