Some trivia to get you ready for the regular season. ( no cheating or using Google/profootballreference)

1) Name the original 8 AFL teams and their cities.

2) Name the two that are the only ones from the “Original 8 AFL” that didn’t change cities and/or names.

3) What three teams went from NFL to AFC with the merger?

4) What two AFC teams went to NFC in the late 70s?

5) What teams have never won a Super Bowl?

6) What teams have never made it to the Super Bowl?

7) Name the original city for the following teams, Ravens, Redskins, Colts, Cardinals.

8) Have the Eagles and Steelers ever done anything unique with respect to relocating or playing home games away from their native city?

9) Name three teams that played in a city, relocated away and then moved back to their original city.

10) What team started out in the NFC, went to the AFC and then back to the NFC?

11) Of the teams that entered the league since 1960, which has the highest winning percentage?

12) Which of the original 8 AFL teams has the most victories???

I'll give it a shot (though to be fair as an old man, I have a bit of an advantage - and doing that 'this day in Patriots history' thread helps as well.)

For those playing this game, just reply to the OP's post above, and don't peak at my answers below.......

1) Name the original 8 AFL teams and their cities.
AFL East:
Boston Patriots
Buffalo Bills
New York Titans
Houston Oilers

AFL West:
Dallas Texans
Los Angeles Chargers
Denver Broncos
Oakland Raiders

Almost caught myself writing Kansas City and San Diego on this one.

2) Name the two that are the only ones from the “Original 8 AFL” that didn’t change cities and/or names.
Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos

3) What three teams went from NFL to AFC with the merger?
Steelers, Colts, Browns

Side note: I had always thought these three agreed to move 'for the good of the game'. It was just this past year that I realized they received a boatload of money to move. In Pittsburgh's case they used that money to sign and retain their best players, which was a critical part of turning their franchise around from a perennial loser to the team of the seventies.

4) What two AFC teams went to NFC in the late 70s?
Tampa Bay and Seattle

5) What teams have never won a Super Bowl?
Bills, Bengals, Browns, Texans, Jaguars, Titans, Chargers
Eagles, Falcons, Panthers, Lions, Vikings, Cardinals

(I almost put down Rams, lol... guess I was thinking of how bad they have been for so long.)

6) What teams have never made it to the Super Bowl?
Texans, Jaguars, Browns, Lions

7) Name the original city for the following teams, Ravens, Redskins, Colts, Cardinals.
Ravens: Cleveland (Browns)
Redskins: Boston (Braves)
Colts: Baltimore
Cardinals: Chicago

8) Have the Eagles and Steelers ever done anything unique with respect to relocating or playing home games away from their native city?
During WWII the two combined to form a single team ... the "Steagles".

9) Name three teams that played in a city, relocated away and then moved back to their original city.
Los Angeles Rams
Oakland Raiders
Los Angeles Chargers

When I first looked through this list of questions I could only think of the Rams. Question #2 reminded me of the Raiders. It was only after answering the first question that I figured out all three.

10) What team started out in the NFC, went to the AFC and then back to the NFC?
I know it was the Bucs and Seahawks that moved, and I'm pretty sure the Bucs started out in the AFC - so it has to be Seattle, I think.

11) Of the teams that entered the league since 1960, which has the highest winning percentage?
I know at one point Dallas, Minnesota and Miami were ahead of the Pats. I can't remember though if the Cowboys and Vikings both started in 1960, or did one of them start in 1961? Pretty sure the Patriots have passed Minnesota. I think the Cowboys are still first.

12) Which of the original 8 AFL teams has the most victories???
Patriots passed Oakland for this honor relatively recently.
Not sure if Miami still has a better percentage though.

Very good, you got them all. The Cowboys are still first for winning percentage among 1960 plus teams...
As for wins among the original 8, the Pats are tops. The Dolphins , who joined the league in 1966 or 1967 still have a higher winning percentage. However, should the Phins go 5-11 and IF the Pats go 12-4, they will pass Miami for overall winning percentage.......

?

Just a suggestion that people use spoiler tags as shown below

Code:
[spoiler] Boston Patriots, Buffalo Bills, etc
Browns, steelers, ravens
[/spoiler]

8) Have the Eagles and Steelers ever done anything unique with respect to relocating or playing home games away from their native city?
Yeah. One year the Steelers played a home game in Pittsburgh against New England and lost, and then 2 weeks later the Eagles played a home game in Jacksonville against New England and lost.
