really liked him at Brown and has been snatched from the Steelers, he is a good guy and probably will do well at the heights.

WHIPPLE DEPARTURE A HUGE LOSS FOR STEELERS

Reacting to the news that Steelers quarterbacks coach Mark Whipple is heading to Boston College, a league source tells us that Whipple's departure is going to hurt. At least PFT says he is:

http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm
"He's a great coach and a big loss for the Steelers," said the source. "One of the best coaches nobody talks about. He'll be an NFL head coach in five to seven years."

To get there, he'll have to prove himself at Boston College, in the same way that Tom Coughlin did before becoming the coach of the Jaguars.

Regardless, the Steelers will be facing even more challenges for the rest of the season.

"What has been a bad year for Big Ben has become a really bad year," said the source.

Probably the perfect guy for BC. Local guy, winning formula, NFL experience. Besides, now we keep Pees. Best of both worlds.

If this is true, I'm sure some of the UMASS staff will be going with him to BC.

Possible but unlikely that an assistant in the NFL will be leaving for an assistant in college unless it's someone looking for an O or D coordinator position and can't get it in the pros. Most of the key UMASS coaches were Whipple's coaches at UMASS.

My dad is going to be excited when I tell him this..

YEAH! Great News....

Harrison37, now there's a name i want to hear from!

BigMike, now THERE is a name from the past.
Good to hear from ya, laddy!

i'm back

from the dark side...happy to be part of a LIVELY board

Great pick if true, but zero confirmations out there with the exception of the rumor mill blog.

I wouldn't call him local, he's from Tarrytown, NY, but he does have alot of experience coaching in New England. I'm not unhappy about it (though unlike most of my schoolmates, I wonder if O'Brien wasn't doing more with less rather than less with more as everyone says), and I believe Fox 25 confirmed it. Go further down the page at PFT.

It was announced at 11:30 on WEEI that Whipple would be talking to the people at BC today. Considering the source, not totally accurate, but some addition to the speculation.
