I know this was mentioned here and there in the threads but I thought this is worth its own thread. The Zebras did an awesome job sunday night. If I'm not mistaken, this is one of the best officiated game that colts played and that too in a superbowl. I cannot help but thinking about this again and again having witnessed in the past what kind of jobs Refs have done !

I can only imagine what Na-polian is scheming and plotting to change the rules next year

Kudos to Scott Green and his crew :rocker:

great point and i noticed it too and because it was so well officiated....it doesn't get pointed out!

One thing i noticed from the playoffs and the SB:
playoffs = tightly officiated...SB = LET THEM PLAY!!!! ( to steal a line from bad news bears!)

not a lot of reviews either. great pace.

Re: OT: Kudos to Refs

I noticed the pace too-I was surprised the game was over by ~9:30.

Re: OT: Kudos to Refs

I was really surprised by this too. It was crazy to see the first timeouts in the second half in the last 5 minutes of the game.

Re: OT: Kudos to Refs

Agree1000%'d.

They did an excellent job making sure they weren't the story. The one call they had to review (the 2-point conversion) they actually got right.

Re: OT: Kudos to Refs

Absolutely, I was waiting for the bogus PI call and thankfully there was none in the game. Made for such a smooth game and much better quality.

It was really a great game overall and exciting finish. On Manning's pick-six, I don't think I have gone that crazy over a play since Rodney's clincher INT on Mcnabb in '04. What a game and what a moment

Re: OT: Kudos to Refs

I thought the refs did do an amazing job as well.

One question though, why did they overturn the call of the 2 point conversion? Was it because it was considered a secondary move? If that would have happened in the middle of the field, let's say the player was reaching for a first down, would it have still been considered a catch?

Re: OT: Kudos to Refs

refs did a great job and made the game much more enjoyable.

some of the last few SBs have been suspect at best . . . glad to see this one was not and was very clean . . .

the way i understand the rules, he had possession prior to being hit by the defender. yes he has to go to the ground with possession, whether hit by a defender or not, but he he did gain possession the moment after his first bobble, once he did that and gain possession, the ball being beyond the goal line, the play was dead and its a two point conversion, it was after this point that it was dislogded by the defender, but that is moot as the play was dead

Re: OT: Kudos to Refs

I actually meant to post somethin about this too. This was the single best Reffing performance I've EVER seen in a Colts game, just ask my brother on every big play that could have screwed the Saints I kept calling for a flag, but none came. I thought this reffing crew did a fantastic job, the game was decided by the players on the field, if only the level of nfl reffing could be like that for every game.

Yes, that's a very good point. Shows how accurate Brees and Manning both were that a pass-happy game would be over that quickly.

And, 100% agreed on the officiating.

As much as it hurts to look back on the "holds" that could have been called against the Giants on the magic helmet play in Arizona (and that occur on many if not most NFL pass plays), it's best for everyone that the game is decided by the players not the Zebras. The only calls I really want to see in an SB are serious roughness or facemask penalties where someone could be hurt and really egregious Pass Interference calls that aren't just a bump or an arm on a back but that are clearly desperation moves to stop a TD or long completion. Otherwise, as long as it's called evenly for and against both teams, like an Umpire's strike zone, I think it's best to "let them play."

Probably a new rule that says intercepted passes can't be run back at all. An INT means the play is over and the other team gets the ball at the spot of the INT.

Re: OT: Kudos to Refs

This was the best reffing performance in 6 years in the SB.

The only issue I had was that they called Spearing on the Saints Hargrove, yet they didn't give a personal foul to Francisco of the Colts for throwing punches while he was outside the scrum of the onside kick or for hitting Shockey late in the head while ensuring to shove his elbow in to Shockey's jaw when he was getting up.

Other than that, they did great.

The good reffing in this game and the compliments toward it are funny considering the fact that many people here thought the same crew costs the Pats the game when they played the Colts earlier in the year.

I don't get it. Why is that funny?

Surely you're not saying that because they were good in this game, they couldn't have been so bad in the other game, and that makes us homers?

As I recall, people complained about the call on Faulk's catch as well as the pass interference on Butler.

It's funny because I've seen some people on here directly blame the refs, and only the refs, for that loss (ignoring what the team did to lose the game, essentially). Now, those same people are coming on here and congratulating a perfectly officiated game. I've even seen people go so far as to say that the good officiating won the Saints the game (essentially ignoring everything the Colts did to lose it and the Saints did to win it). Did I offend you when I said that? If so, is it because you were one of the people that said Scott Green cost us the game?

I knew the officials were fair when the actually overturned a decision and gave the saints the 2pt they converted.

Re: OT: Kudos to Refs

They missed so many PI calls
