OT It's official: Las Vegas Raiders

I heard that Raider fans far outnumber Charger and/or Ram fans in LA Area. N that there's a greater likelihood of they traveling to Las Vegas to watch a game than to pay for tix at either teams

Seriously? Why Vegas?

It's a desert. It gets chilly there after September. It has a lousy airport. There's not much to do there except drink and gamble. In sum, it's just a sh*thole with a strip of casinos full of dumb tourists and people going to conventions and really not a fun place to visit in the cold winter months when football happens.
OK you've obviously never been there.....

A former colleague, who was/is a passionate Pats supporter, has gone to numerous stadiums around the country. She always reiterated that the only time she was "scared" was when she n her husband went to Oakland Collusium

I would rate Levi stadium across the bay as the worst. That move from Candlestick to the worst part of Santa Clara was pretty bad.

Miami dissented because it wanted to rating the title of "Worst 'sports' city in the NFL." Now they don't even have that.

Hopefully, they do something about that airport with the increase in revenue. Nothing like having to wait in line for a shuttle to the off site rental car facility after a 6 hour flight.
Taxi lines are not much better and the shuttles to downtown have a " we don't give a s*it attitude, we don't have to". We took Uber everywhere at a fraction of the cost.......

How does sticking Levi's in the Great America parking lot, surrounded by high tech company office buildings, hotels and a golf course qualify as the worst part of Santa Clara, let alone compare worse than the current Raiders home location?

Chris

I like having a rental car whenever I'm out that way. I enjoy driving around Red Rock Canyon and California is a relatively short road trip away. I get bored on the vegas strip really, really quickly.

Since tourism is the city's entire economy, it galls me that they welcome you with a tiny airport and make you wait in line for a shuttle to your rental car making your arrival extra miserable. Ever hear of the importance of a good first impression, Vegas?

Don't people tend to go to Vegas for Vegas stuff and not sports games? I think Golden Knights will fail hard because of this. Not convinced people will want to go to a hockey game out there. Raiders already have a dedicated fanbase so it outta work.

Yeah, but I'm from Montana. I can't exactly head on over to the local stadium and catch a pro game whenever I want. That, and I don't exactly travel to any of the cities that have NFL teams just for the hell of it.

So now I can go to Vegas, and maybe catch an NFL game all in the same weekend

San Diego was an awesome place to visit for Patriots games. The NFL takes away that and gives me suck *** Las Vegas!

You forgot excellent food and strip clubs.

Add those in, and you've just described heaven

In fairness, the best meal I've ever had in my life was at JOËL ROBUCHON at MGM Grand but the bill for a party of 8 came out to an amount higher than I paid for my first car.

The best strip clubs I've ever been to are on Calle Coahuila south of the San Diego border but that's another story altogether . . .

I've been there frequently. Probably more often than anybody really should go.
I find that hard to believe given that you say there's not much to do there except drink and gamble, and that it gets "chilly" after September.

Of course, all of this is not to mention the fact that they are coming from Oakland, which is not exactly a tourist mecca in the first place. I would never make a trip to Oakland to see the Raiders play, but I could sure see myself going to Vegas when the Pats are in town. I suspect a great number of NFL fans across the nation agree.

Would love to see a playoff game the Saturday or Sunday of CES in January.

I mean live, in person, in Vegas. Not at the sports books, you smartasses.

Regards,
Chris

Usually, but I could definitely envision a three day Patriots themed bender that has staying up way too late on Friday and Saturday, then getting to the game at 10am Sunday, tailgate, go to the game, beat the Raiders, get back to the hotel at 6pm and either fly home or stay one more night and party with my fellow Patriots fans and maybe Gronk. The game will be seamlessly integrated into the Vegas experience.

I'm defining "chilly" as too cold to comfortably hang out in the hotel pool area (under 70 degrees) which is usually in the Fall over there. By January/February it's pretty darn cold. In Summer, it gets up over 100 degrees which is pretty miserable to walk around it.

Rich NFL players in Sin City full time. This has disaster written all over it
