Salvation Army provides the highest percent in terms of providing direct aid. I made a promise after they fed us after 9/11 ( was a first responder ) and they kept "Sal's Bistro" open 24/7 while working that I will never walk past the kettle without donating....
In addition, they do wonders XMas time taking care of the less fortunate....

Ocean all churned up
Winds from the north
Very cool but nothing too intense

What is the best seafood down there? My brother thinks it's Captain Charlie's, I say Hog Snappers. & don't say Dune Dog Cafe.

I eat at Captain Charlie’s lunch space “Three Doors Up” all the time
Ocassionally at Captain Charlie’s for Dinner
Never been to Hog Snappers
On PGA Blvd....Spotos... very pricy but excellent fresh seafood
People in area love the Food Shack in Jupiter but it’s been years since I’ve eaten there

Food shack and Leftovers are great, owned by the same people. Lol at the Dune Dog... love that spot for a laid back place. Kids loved it when they were younger.

I want the electric company to install a whole home surge protector outside, but they said they don’t offer that service anymore.

I hired an electrician to install a whole house surge protector at my place in Cape Coral. It got installed in the circuit breaker box.

What might have been....
Last Wednesday, the historically most accurate of the Euro models calculated correctly the future western turn and western path of Dorian.... with a nonstop route blasting thru Palm Beach County and onto the Gulf.
One day later, this model adjusted and had the eye stall over Palm Beach County for a day before heading due north up the spine of Florida. I shat myself on this day.

Moving at 1 MPH or less for a day now and the videos coming out of the islands...nothing left. Cars swept out to sea ect. Scary stuff when a hurricane sits over you with 170 mph winds for 24 hours. Can't even imagine trying to ride that out on an island

Very curious if water drained out of the shallow flats above Grand Bahama on the east side of the storm just north of Grand Bahamas.
When strong storms have crossed the FL Keys east to west, the flats on the Gulf side have drained out for miles
Think of a leaf blower clearing away a shallow puddle in seconds

Category is only relative to wind. Katrina was a CAT 3 when that hit. The storm surge was the major problem

And where it hit. NOLA being below sea level to begin with no matter what category will always be the main issue and now with rising sea levels plus hurricanes if another major hit like that again and it will sooner or later..will be devastating again

Lots of coastal areas are extremely vulnerable to Storm Surge, not only NOLA (although it is especially vulnerable because, as you say, parts are below sea level) also much of the southern coast, most of the Florida coast (especially around Miami), the southeastern coast and the New York City area (as Tropical Storm Sandy, not even a hurricane, demonstrated). For anyone that is interested you can see what areas are vulnerable to storm surges (click on Hurricane Category 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 in the upper left and zoom into whatever your region of interest is) at this NOAA website:

Those same areas that are vulnerable to storm surge will also become more problematic with long term sea level rise of course also, perhaps something to think about if you are planning to purchase a condo that will pass down to your children.
