OT: Hobbs got a first-round tender from the Eagles

It's good that Hobbs got tendered after his injury, because it means he'll still get paid. The irony of the Patriots CB position is that the team traded Hobbs away and signed Bodden, and Hobbs would still have been the CB1/CB2, and he would have been under team control this year. Instead, Hobbs is elsewhere, the Patriots had a lesser CB starting pair than could have been gotten, and Bodden is outside the team's control.

But at least they got those 5th round picks....

How could that be? A 1st rd tender?

I thought most of the folks here at patsfans said that Ellis Hobbs was absolutely awful

Bill thought he was worth 2 5th round picks.

He had good cover skills, but that's only half the battle. He was generally completely unaware of the ball in the air, which led to a number of PI calls, balls caught with his back to the play, and a lack of interceptions. He's a number 3 corner, for us he was a number 1 - that led to the resentment, rightly or wrongly.

So many times at Foxboro I would yell "turn around Ellis!!!!" when the ball was in the air to the WR he was covering. I've never yelled at any other CB like that.

Surprisingly, it did very little good. :bricks:

So, it's his fault that he suddenly became the #1 due to a lack of surrounding talent?

He did just fine as a #2, and there's no way he's worse than a very servicable #3 nickel back with an increase to the KR game.

Put it this way, he would've been better than Wilhite, Springs, and Butler last year, although I think Butler has way more eventual upside. Not only that, but our KR game took a total downward spiral too.

Maybe Hobbs wasn't exactly a superstar, but I didn't see any improvement without him besides Bodden--which was the original problem of not having a true #1. With a true #1, Hobbs did a lot better.

Havent you heard? Hobbs stunk, and cost the Pats a SB. Stop trying to convince anyone here that he was any good. There's only a couple of us that would agree with you

:agree:

I may not agree with ya often, but this one i completely agree with.

File this one away under "further evidence that Hobbs is a decent CB who was unfairly blamed by Pats fans for a ton of things that weren't really his fault." Still wish the Pats had kept him; they sure could have used him in 2009, and they could be tendering him for 2010 right now...

Talk about a non-story once you read the facts of it. I know Hobbs was a lightning rod on this board but talk about grasping for straws to support what should be a long dead argument. Philly had to pay him first round tender $ no matter the comp they chose so why would they choose less?

Just for you guys to know he couldn't beat about Hanson for the Nickle role in Philly.

The only thing we missed this guy for was his kick returning, he was what he was as a CB. It was time to move on and see if we had something better.
