"Keep waving your giant asterisks, er, I mean pompoms." Why is their win an asterisk? They didn't cheat their way to a win, like Bonds did to a home run title. Take off the homer glasses for once.

"Nobody takes your team seriously, and for good reason. Win it again for real and maybe people will care." My team happens to be the same as yours Einstein, the Patriots; go read some of my posts before jumping down my throat ok clambrain?

"Yep, no coincidence that it came after the coaching staff spent the last 36 hours pre Sb huddled with lawyers, that the team was smeared in front of friends and framily and the world, that they had to take the stage in front of 2 billion people unable to defend themselves against slander, that SB morning the head of the senate judiciary committee threatened to haul the starting QB in for interrogation that coming Tuesday... no coincidence the team played its worst game that afternoon."

Great points by you; when signaling in the play, McDaniel was thinking "Gee, those last 36 hours were tough and I hope my friends and family and the world still like me" and when Brady went back to pass and had time (not that often by the way) and spotted a wide open reciever, he thought "Gee, I hope I don't soil myself Tuesday in front of the senate judiciary committee."

Stop with the excuses, the Giants manhandled the Patriots, so deal with it.

For my surprise in the AFC this year I would have to say the Browns. But since everyone is already saying it then I guess that doesn't count as a surprise team. So I will have to say, as much as I would hate to, the Jets. I know I know. We hate them and we want them to suck but they upgraded their team a lot this off season. I think they will make the playoff this year. I also like the Texans. Although that seems more unlikely due to the difficulty of their division.

As far as the NFC I dont see why everyone seems to think that the Seahawks will make that much noise. I really dont see that happening. I will agree with some of you on the Panthers as long as Delhome is healthy. But I think the Packers will surprise and be just as good if not close to how they were last season and show the world that they really dont miss Favre that much. They have a really good team all around and I think Favre got way more credit than he was due for them being so good last season. He was always way overrated in my opinion.

Chiming in.
AFC down
I think the surprise fall with be the Browns. The expectations are high, the schedule very very tough, including in the spotlight night games that they are not used to and they have yet to beat the Steelers in I think its 9 tries in a row.
AFC up
The team that worries me about being a surprise is the Denver Broncos. No one is talking about them, and that always worries me. They have a good coaching staff, a pretty descent QB, still a good secondary and could win the AFC West if Norv Turner screws things up in SD, as is his nature to do.

NFC down
Dallas. Romo can't win a big game to save his life. TO is one mini-camp away from reverting to his old self. They have a tough schedule, the NFC East is brutal this season, Philly will be up, Skins won't be as bad as people think, and the Giants will be competative.
NFC up
Not going to be a playoff winning team, but the Rams could shock some folks if they get some wins early. They have a great running game if they just learn to use Steven Jackson more. Their defense is still very suspect, but they were SOO bad last year they have to rebound. Too much talent on that team not to improve. But I could be wrong, way wrong. I don't think they'll be in the Playoffs, but to improve to 8 or 9 wins would be a huge improvement for that organization.

how is it norv's nature to screw up a good team, when he's never had a good team till last season?

it's the same as the belichick nonsense from cleveland
