CULPEPPER INJURES HAND IN CAR CRASH

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that Dolphins quarterback Daunte Culpepper suffered a hand injury in a Wednesday night automobile accident. The crash occurred on the Sawgrass Expressway, and it involved two vehicles. Both cars rolled off of the road.

Culpepper complained of a hand injury to paramedics. It's not known whether he injured his left hand or his right hand. More details are expected to become available later in the day.

The Dolphins have been trying to trade Culpepper, but the quarterback has asked to be released. The NFL Players Association filed a grievance on his behalf earlier this week, due to the refusal of the Dolphins to allow him to participate in team drills during a recent minicamp.

If the hand injury prevents Culpepper from playing football, the team can cut him with no financial obligation or the team could put him on the non-football injury/illness list, and pay him nothing.

Not clear whether it's his throwing hand or not. But it would be ironic if Culpepper ended up on the NFI list, rather than in a Jags uniform (or any other, for that matter).

Hope he's OK. Can anybody vouch for feelthepain or Aquaboy last night?

Miami can cut him at any time with no financial implications, so an off field accident makes no difference. Only an on field injury would have resulted in their liability for some or all of his salaries going forward. NFI might actually hurt them as once he's cleared to come off it he's theirs to cut or roster. Camp doesn't open for 5-6 weeks, and the season doesn't start for another 6 after that. 10-12 weeks - plenty of time for a hand injury to heal just in time for the season. And as a vested veteran if he's on the roster for game 1 they are on the hook for his full salary.

This should make Del Rio's day though. After coming clean on their interest and royally pissing off his existing dynamic duo of Leftwich and Garrard. And cutting a safety to create cap room... Byron was interviewed yesterday and he was pretty obviously miffed. Looked like he's gaining back the weight he appeared to have lost too. Said he's not a bum, he has skills and he can do math. LOL

Been a rough June so far for Daunte.

Even the biggest Dolphin hater has to feel bad for this rejected and now injured QB.

Hope things get better for him.

I agree on all counts.
