OT: CBS makes major changes to 'NFL Today': Phil Simms and Boomer Esiason out

I have to think this was in the works, but I wonder if Bill's appearance on MacAfee had any bearing. Seems clear to me that the NFL pregames are stale, and MacAfees morning zoo format was certainly fresher, and then Bill added a whole other layer.

I'm definitely ready for a change.

Five dudes being paid millions a year to try to be insightful and clever in six second chunks gotta end.

Also not up for dudes in dress clothes on a fake football field (unless it's Jules and Gronk).

If 'linear TV' doesn't react, people will just connect to other stuff till the game's on.

I have tuned out for some time now. It's all BS.

Ya Burleson was definitely a choice.

FOX definitely got the better former WR turned studio analyst

Idk man call me a homer but FOX definitely getting my view when they hired Brady to be a commentator and Edelman and Gronk for the studio shows.

I mean come on they literally got a segment called FOXBoROS

I love Edelman in this role and I think Brady will be great. Gronk on TV doesn't do it for me.

Simms sez 26 years:

What's next?

A bit of googling suggests he was being paid $3M a year by CBS and his net worth is around $16M and he's 68 years old.

$3M a year to work weekends for less than half the year and read from a teleprompter is a pretty sweet gig.

I don't know, maybe sit at home and count your money and let the next guy get some of that action?

Yet Cowher was kept.

Give it a few years. Cowher will be gone. My guess is CBS is holding out hope for McVay to finally follow through with his retirement teases.

Boomer always respected the Pats. I enjoyed his weekly call-in during the season to I think WEEI? and would look for it on podcast. I remember how he would be amused at Pats fans mourning after a rare loss like it was it all over where for other fans losing was a way of life. When I think about it, we did expect and got excellence most every week. What a drop-off these last few years. Glad there was finally a shake-up.

Gronk is terrible in everything he does. Live TV, commercials, etc. When he communicates like a normal person (podcasts) hes find.
I'll cosign this opinion. He's best when he's not trying to sound polished.

Agreed. He should be doing man interacting with the crowd stuff like Siragusa used to do.

I like Boomer. Simms was overdue.

Fox needs to get rid of Bradshaw and Johnson. They couldn't be less insightful.
Bradshaw is really bad…borderline incomprehensible now

WOW. Mario was pissed lol.
I could see how Marino would take that as an insult, but what Boomer was saying was that Marino had to play perfect because his teams were inferior to the competition. Anybody know what game this was with Manning? During the 1st Dynasty, Manning's teams were clearly inferior to the Pats. 2004 playoffs, as the "idiot kicker" mentioned, was their first shot to knock them off due to injuries in the secondary.

Aaron Rodgers in GB was like this in most of his playoff games. Media kept falling into the trap saying how good they were until a team in the playoffs like SF bullied them repeatedly exposing their lack of talent.

It had gotten stale and was time for a change.

2004 Divisional (the 20-3 game)

Always though B. Esiason was the best pregame guy on TV. He didn’t shy away from giving actual opinions.
He also was a great listen for the same reason calling in to the local sports talk.
