OT: CBS makes major changes to 'NFL Today': Phil Simms and Boomer Esiason out

Kinda surprising they stuck around this long. Usually in studio guys have a shelf life. ESPN cycles through them like crazy, but CBS has had their share of turnover. Easiason has been on the broadcast for 22 years. Simms has been doing color or in the studio for 30 years.

I am sure Cowher's time is numbered too. These shows tend to want to cycle in fresh blood over time.

I like Boomer. Simms was overdue.

Fox needs to get rid of Bradshaw and Johnson. They couldn't be less insightful.
Seems like Johnson does not want to be there anymore.

I could see Fox picking up Boomer or Simms.

My thoughts exactly.

I have to think this was in the works, but I wonder if Bill's appearance on MacAfee had any bearing. Seems clear to me that the NFL pregames are stale, and MacAfees morning zoo format was certainly fresher, and then Bill added a whole other layer.

I never got the impression that Bradshaw was there for his insight. He just had the right kind of entertaining presence for a pre-show but as he has gotten older he doesn't have the energy for it.

I found myself watching fox kick-off show and zoning out during the pre-game show last season. Made me think maybe they should have the kick-off crew replace the pre-game show crew

Burleson does nothing for me. I don't need a fashion show.

Ya Burleson was definitely a choice.

FOX definitely got the better former WR turned studio analyst

Idk man call me a homer but FOX definitely getting my view when they hired Brady to be a commentator and Edelman and Gronk for the studio shows.

I mean come on they literally got a segment called FOXBoROS

Maybe Fox Sports will take a hint from this.

They are in dire need of youth, much more so than CBS was.

Terry Bradshaw is just a complete embarrassment at this point, and has been for several years.
Totally unwatchable and unlistenable with incoherent, dense thoughts.
Gets thoroughly lost if he can't read off a teleprompter or sheet of paper.

Jimmy Johnson added insight when he first started.
But at this point he adds nothing and needs to be let go.

Stop acting as though you have to hire ex-players and ex-coaches.
There are plenty of good NFL analysts that are better at what they do than former athletes, that also understand the art of public speaking.

I am glad that the rest of the NFL gets to see what we had with Jules.

Yeah, he killed your teams when he was playing, but he has such a great personality.

Hard not to love him.

Truly an end of an era. Always liked Simms, Boomer ? Not so much, seems like a jerk.

Seems like this is an attempt to go younger. Cowher still there?

Simms sez 26 years:

What's next?

A bit of googling suggests he was being paid $3M a year by CBS and his net worth is around $16M and he's 68 years old.

$3M a year to work weekends for less than half the year and read from a teleprompter is a pretty sweet gig.

I don't know, maybe sit at home and count your money and let the next guy get some of that action?

Yet Cowher was kept.
