That's why you can make an argument that the NHL officiating migh be the worse in any of the big sports. Their inconsistency's mind boggling.

As bad as this game was called NHL officiating is leaps and bounds ahead of the other sports. NBA officials routinely make calls based on the name on the back of the jersey, MLB is a complete joke and the NFL is almost as bad. The inconsistency in hockey is largely attributable to the speed of the game and the impossibility of always having a decent vantage point. With the exception of the double standard applied to 'pests' like Marchy or the penchant for juggling the tally sheet overall hockey isn't that bad compared to the others. Although that's damning with faint praise since they all suck. There's no excuse for a relatively static game like baseball to be as poorly officiated as it is or a game that gives the looks and replay availability basketball does to be so laughably bad. At least football and hockey have the inherent speed/space/angle issues hindering their officiating. The color analyst made a telling comment at the end of the game about how the managers meeting with the officiating supervisor after this one will be 'interesting.'
