OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets for 2 players, third (cond. second), fifth

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets for 2 players, third, fifth

The Jets are going for it all this year. If Braylon Edwards can produce, that's a steal of a trade. Chansi Stuckey is decent but he's replaceable. Trusnick is even less decent than Stuckey and third and fifth round picks are a wash. If they don't advance deep into the playoffs this year, they're doomed. I highly doubt they're going to have money to keep some of the defensive talent they have on that squad and isn't Leon Washington coming up on a new contract?

Re: OT- Braylon Edwards to the Jets...

Wow, an actual midseason trade ? I like Edwards a lot - unfortunately. Unless Mangina is giving guys away, though, like with Sanchez, Edwards should cost the jest a good amount in draft picks.

He probably is. Knows his career is over and just wants to hurt the Pats as much as possible on the way out.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets for 2 players, third, fifth

Four letters: PSLs

Jets need to do something this year, in order to move those PSLs.

By next year, the Patriots are going to be the ones with youth and speed, and the Jets are going to be the ones looking older and slower.

Not so. Outside of a few people, the Jets are a very, very young team. Your statement is essentially the same thing people were saying about the Pats a couple of years ago even though the Pats were by far and away NOT the oldest team in the league.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets for 2 players, third, fifth

When did Braylon Edwards become Larry Fitzgerald. Edwards had one very good year and has been a bust based on his draft status otherwise. He is facing a possible suspension from the league (according to PFT the Jets are aware of this and are gambling that if he is that it won't happen until next season). He is in his final year of his contract and looking for Fitzgerald money.

The Edwards deal could be a huge deal for the Jets, but there is a possibility that, at the end of the day, the Browns are the ones who got the better end of the deal in the trade. I will compare this to the Roy Williams deal last year with the Cowboys. The Cowboys gave up far too much for Williams, but everyone thought that Williams would make the Cowboys a strong Super Bowl contender. Williams did nothing last year.

Keep in mind though the QB situation Braylon had to endure in Cleveland. He had that one good year, had injury problems when Anderson had that great year so he couldn't take advantage of that and then the next two years, the QBs over there really stunk it up. I'm not saying he's Moss, but the guy is definitely a talented WR and if in the right situation, can really excel and become a real threat.

I look at this like when Plaxico went to the Giants. He had some issues in Pittsburgh, but when he went to the Giants, he helped them out a great deal and gave Eli a legit #1 WR. I can see the same thing happening with Braylon and Sanchez.

Braylon Edwards is Irvin Fryar. Tons of talent wasted. Maybe a change o scenery will help him like it did Fryar, but I doubt the NYJ will be a place for him to mature.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets for 2 players, third, fifth

The Jets are going for it all this year.

Just like they did last year, and the year before that, and...

It's what's wrong with that franchise. No patience to build a solid and sustainable foundation. Woody worries as much about ink as he does about actual Lombardi's. Gotta sell those PSL's. This will keep the mediots talking about the JETS without it focusing on Sanchise crashing back to earth.

That is why BB ran screaming from the Meadowlands and warned Eric not to take the bait.

Fixed your post for you.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets for 2 players, third, fifth

Yet again, Cleveland will be every team in the AFCN's little beat up machine!!!
GO STEELERS!!!

Well, Cleveland now appears to be the ONE team in your division that you can beat.

BTW, OT here: Does ANYONE have a linked video to that legendary press conference back in 2000 where BB announced his resignation as HC of the NYJ?

I've read about it for years and it must have been compelling viewing (especially when the GM takes over the microphone and says BB must have had a nervous breakdown).

I hate the Jets with a passion and would love to see them do nothing else but crash and burn. In fact, I would cackle like a witch about it. But their O-Line and D-Line are as stout as any in the AFC and they have a viable franchise quarterback, from the looks of it right now. I'd say their foundation is pretty solid at the moment.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets for 2 players, third, fifth

Good move by the Jets. It's an appreciable upgrade if Edwards performs. That said, Buffalo supporters whacked themselves at the prospect of Evans and Owens together. They're having a real crack at immediate success to validate their franchise in the eyes of a bloody thirsty and success starved market. Rex Ryan is making all the right moves, but at what cost long term? If you buy yourself a Superbowl win, would you be happy with another 20 years of mediocrity? I really don't think Jets fans care, they've suffered enough over the years.

The problem is, they are mortgaging their future for immediate success. The moves they have made make them competitive now, but as the NFL has proven year after year, you need to be in a position to adapt and change at the whim. How do you leverage that? Future draft picks. It amazes me that other teams continually deal with Belichick, knowing the future positional strength it gives him in the draft.

Either way, good on the Jets for having at crack and trying to get to the Patriots level. The problem for the Jets is, everyone knows they compare themselves to us, and the state that I see BB building the Patriots in.. quite frankly it's ******* scary for the rest of the league.

They are relying on a lot of older, expensive FA talent - particularly in the trenches. And not a lot of draft capital. Not to mention they blew it on some of their recent picks including an all important trench pick. And the couple they didn't blow will be squawking for their big paydays sooner than later. Sanchise got off to a hot start, but we've seen that before. Some sustain it, others inexplicably don't. Won't know what he is or may eventually be for at least another year. And if he does well he will be performing with a new OC come 2010 as Shotsie, Jr. will be off to the land of HC's leaving Fatso in the lurch since he didn't come with anything on the offense of his own...

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets for 2 players, third, fifth

I don't expect Edwards to come in an jell rite away, maybe next year, possibly sooner. He may force teams to respect him and not load 8 in the box every play.

Size and speed, a perfect compliment to Cotchery, price was fair, hope they signed him to a new contract.

Jets are still short 1 receiver, maybe Marvin Harrison.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets for 2 players, third, fifth

I thought Stucky played well against us

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets...

Wow, literally hours after Crabtree signed. Just goes to show you how much the Jets had probably been tampering with Crabtree.

No, that's just a coincidence. Really.

Chansi Stucky had been playing pretty well for the Jets, I thought.

All things considered, you have to give Tannenbaum credit. He's been very aggressive and has moved to plug the holes and make the Jets a contender, and he's made some excellent moves. If nothing else, give him credit for recognizing that the Jets offense wasn't making enough happen and trying to shake things up. It may or may not work, and depending on what the picks are he may or may not have overpaid. But he's trying.

In the short run, the trade certainly makes the Jets better. Drops or no, Edwards is big and fast and a legitimate threat that will keep opposing defenses honest.

In the long run, I can see the Jets potentially headed for salary cap hell. They have spent money like it is water, and at some point it will catch up for them. I don't see them being built for the long haul.

They obviously have the opposite philosophy of the Patriots.

Let's see how that works out for them.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets for 2 players, third, fifth

The jets are now even with this team, wat a steal, they gave the browns basically scrap. The jets still got their defense and has a legit wr when he is not dropping balls.

Still don't know what the picks were, and Stucky was playing well. But overall, it looks like a reasonable deal for the Jets.

I agree that Edwards will force teams to respect him and not load the box. That alone should help.

I said yesterday that you were one good WR and a year's experience for Sanchez from being an elite team. Sounds like you're a little closer today. Good move - even though I'm not a huge Edwards fan, he's certainly an upgrade. The long term salary cap implications may be heavy, though with the CBA up in the air that doesn't seem to be Tannenbaum's focus.

On certain 3rd and longs a mailbox could play well against us (getting much better though
