Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets...

My thoughts exactly

Seems like he's still on the Jet payroll...and is doing his best to try to take down Belichik with all this.

He'll be as successful with that as he is in Cleveland.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets...

Adam Schefter says the picks could be a 3rd and 5th. Sounds like he is speculating, though.
Peter King also said no picks higher than a #3.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets...

To be fair to Edwards, he is a vertical WR who uses his size to make plays, and in Cleveland they couldn't protect to get the ball deep. With NY and in a better offense, he probably gets more opportunities to make plays.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets...

UPDATE: Glazer reports there are two draft picks; Schefter says they're believed to be a third-round pick and a fifth-round pick.

FROM Profootballtalk, so take that for what its worth, but is sounds reasonable.

So Next year the Jets have three draft picks: 1st, 2nd, & a 6th

and If Lito plays enough to move his vaule to at least a thrid round pick (minimum on that trade was a 4th) then the Jets are going to have to send Philly or Cleveland a 2nd rd pick (or trade #2 to get another 3rd and keep their 4th).

At best they will enter the draft with 4 picks, at worst 2 picks, and they signed so many free agents that they will not get any comp picks. Good thing they have already won their Superbowl this year, because signing all those aging vetrans and trading away draft picks is a great way to build a team for the future!!!!

Tannebaum knows that he is toast if this team does not win in the next 2 years, so he is morgaging their future now, knowing that if it doesn't work out, the problem will not be his to fix.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets...

If they really think he will be suspended then why bother unless its for something trivial like a 5th rounder. If he is suspended then you aren't getting him until like mid season and he still has to learn the offense and build timing with a rookie QB.

Who knows if or for how long he will be suspended. The amount the Jets appeared to have given up looks like they are looking at him for a long term answer since it could take him much of the season to get in tune with Sanchez and the offense at this point. Few WRs can get traded mid-season and pick up the offense right off the bat. Look how bad Roy Williams struggled for the Cowboys last year and he wasn't asked to be the Cowboys' #1 WR. Williams' numbers are similiar to Edwards' when he came to the Cowboys (actually slightly better). If you trade for a WR in season, it better be a long term investment or a bargain deal because there is no guarantees that he will be any good for you the year he is traded for since continuity with the QB and WR is so important.

Re: OT- Braylon Edwards to the Jets...

I have a feeling Mangini WANTS to get fired. This just makes no sense to Brown. I know Edwards is a headcase but how can you expect to win any game when you trade away your best pass catching TE and now best WR? I mean its clearly good move for Jets(assuming Edwards somehow doesn't pull Plaxico Burress in NY). Although I think its about one year early for them to make this move.

Not that I like mangini, but edwards has had one good season in the league. They weren't winning with him, so they'll just continue doing what they've been doing.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets...

When I think of Braylon Edwards, I think of a lot of dropped balls. Am I wrong?

No you are not wrong. I had him on my fantasy team last year. He stunk.

Adam Schefter just reported it... I know people will blow this off, but I think the Jets are a serious contender , and will give us fits Nov 22... They are not going away...

The Jets help themselves a lot by packaging draft picks and second

string players to get good players (Edwards, Sanchez, Harris, Reviis).

Of course, they are lucky to have Mangini as a trading partner. Mangini

will leave Cleveland in a shambles.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets for 2 players, third, fifth

Well officially, Browns are Jest's Raiders....that is until Mangini gets canned.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets for 2 players, third, fifth

That is such a ridiculous trade, AGAIN, by Mangini. Wow. Great job by the jets.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets for 2 players, third, fifth

Man, if we flirt with the idea that we got rooked in the Burgess deal, this could end up being an epic fail for both teams.

I'm glad they continue to get more competitive. I think they could have found better receiver, especially shipping out those kind of goods.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets for 2 players, third, fifth

3rd and a 5th plus players for Braylon? Looks like the Jets' farm team is Cleveland, much like the Raiders' is ours. Good deal for the Jets. Browns need to fire Mangini before they give the Jets Joe Thomas.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets...

He had 0, yes zero, catches last week in a game that was almost 5 quarters long. I think his name actually trumps his actual talent or lake there of.

Wasn't that his first game without a catch in 67 games or some rediculous thing? I know he's been wishy washy in Cleveland, but let's be realistic. Jerry Rice couldn't make it work with Anderson and Quinn at QB. I'm not saying Edwards is anywhere near Rice's talent, but when your QBs belong in a 3rd string role, you can't be overly productive.

As far as the Crabtree saga, I seriously doubt it played any role in this move. The Jets couldn't have Crab this year, so why not go after B.E. earlier? The fact is, Edwards contract is done and his value is sinking with this latest legal issue. Cleveland HAD to get something for him before it was too late.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets for 2 players, third, fifth

I like this trade for Cleveland, they get a decent young receiver who has been getting steadily better. Those two draft picks may not be very high, but they give Cleveland some useful tools for draft day maneuvers. Cleveland dumps a problem child and gets some useful tools in return, it costs Mangini nothing to dump a problem from the Savage years to improve his cellar dwellers.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets for 2 players, third, fifth

Ha Ha Ha ... JETs what a piece.

I'm sure glad they had to give up Stucky to get Edwards.
This is not as big a deal as it appears to be at the get go.

By the time we play the JETs PATs D will be really cooking.
Bt the time we play the JETs PATs O will be really cooking.

Leigh Booden played with him for 3 or 4 years in Cleveland. You think he
might know him a little?

The Jets have drafted for quality instead of quantity the past few

years. The Patriots have collected a lot of draft picks but have

misfired on a lot of them. The 2009 draft looks like a good one.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets for 2 players, third, fifth

Talk about a bad 48 hours, you get in a fight outside a nightclub, Lebron James calls you out to the whole country, and then when it cant get much worse... you become a Jet. Are the New Jersey Jets the NFL's version of the Witness Protection Program? Is it the one one place no one will be able to find him?

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets for 2 players, third, fifth

When did Braylon Edwards become Larry Fitzgerald. Edwards had one very good year and has been a bust based on his draft status otherwise. He is facing a possible suspension from the league (according to PFT the Jets are aware of this and are gambling that if he is that it won't happen until next season). He is in his final year of his contract and looking for Fitzgerald money.

The Edwards deal could be a huge deal for the Jets, but there is a possibility that, at the end of the day, the Browns are the ones who got the better end of the deal in the trade. I will compare this to the Roy Williams deal last year with the Cowboys. The Cowboys gave up far too much for Williams, but everyone thought that Williams would make the Cowboys a strong Super Bowl contender. Williams did nothing last year.
