Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets...

Not a number 1 Im sure... it could be a 3 and a 5 or at best a 2 and a 4 ....

They already traded a #4 that could escalate to a #2 next year (based on playing time) for Lito Sheppard. They also gave up a conditional #7 for Kevin O'Connell.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets...

Assuming it is a 3 and something significant like a 5, a lot to give up for a guy who had one good year and could be suspended as soon as this season.
Edwards is now a Jet = not going to be suspended.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets...

I think this is a good move for them as that was a real weakness. As long as they didn't pay too much in draft picks (3rd rounder or less) they get to test drive Edwards and see if he is worth signing to a long term deal. The counter argument, of course, is that they really can't maximize his worth with a rookie QB at the helm. Additionally you have a WR coming in with zero idea about the playbook. Its going to take him some time to come up to speed.

I guess the question is, why now? Edwards has been on the trading block for some time. What made the Jets pull the trigger now?

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets...

When I think of Braylon Edwards, I think of a lot of dropped balls. Am I wrong?
No, you're right, he's a drops machine.

That said, he's still a playmaker, albeit an underachieving/overrated one outside of that 1 monster year he had. Depending on the value of the picks, this still looks like a nice deal and upgrade for a Jets team lacking a little bit in the passing game.

Braylon's a free agent at the end of the year and if he gets star WR money based on his draft status/potential and 1 monster year, I like this deal a lot less for the Jets. He's not worth it but you also don't just want to lose the guy for nothing at the end of the year.

Cause Rex Ryan is a little girl and he needs a big man to make his defense feel safe.
If rex ryan was so confident in his defense he wouldnt need to make this move.

If they traded a #2 for Edwards, and Sheppard meets his playing time criteria, then they would have to send Philly a #1 (if you do not have the draft pick for the round stated in the trade, then you MUST send the team you traded with your pick from the next round up). So I doubt they traded him for a #2, more than likely they sent the Browns a #3 and #6 plus Stuckey and the LB.

Mangina's hooking up his old buddy Tannenbum. First he gave them the 5th overall pick for chump change, and now this crap.

In fairness, the Browns couldn't give away Edwards this offseason. The guy is a bad egg (multiple problems with the law and a chance of being suspended for his latest incident) and not very consistent (but with great potential). The guy has the potential of getting 150 yards and 2 TDs one week and then go three weeks with getting under 50 yards a week and no TDs. Even in his one great season (2007), he only had 5 games with over 90 yards vs. 4 games with under 60 yards.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets...

Edwards, when properly motivated, gives the Jets what they need. He can open up the field for them.

However, he is a headcase, like a lot of WR, and wants his payday. He got a speeding ticket last year for driving 120 MPH and had the recent incident where he is accused of punching a friend of Lebron James. There is risk for the Jets, but the payoff for them is big as well.

Trusnik is one of the Jets best ST players, so it weakens them there.

He had 0, yes zero, catches last week in a game that was almost 5 quarters long. I think his name actually trumps his actual talent or lake there of.

Hahahaha, OMG

Re: OT- Braylon Edwards to the Jets...

If he gets fired after this year he's done as an NFL HC probably forever.

On the trade, I think we'll end up disappointed what the jest gave up given Edwards' on and off field issues in addition to being a UFA after this year.

Agreed. This guy has a charisma of pile of rocks and I have no clue why Browns signed him in a first place. Shocker none the less.

My thoughts exactly

Seems like he's still on the Jet payroll...and is doing his best to try to take down Belichik with all this.

My guess is Edwards' latest incident and an 0-4 start made the Browns drop their asking price. He gets into a bar fight on Saturday night, the league announces they will investigate the incident on Wednesday, and he is traded on Thursday.

If they really think he will be suspended then why bother unless its for something trivial like a 5th rounder. If he is suspended then you aren't getting him until like mid season and he still has to learn the offense and build timing with a rookie QB.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets...

I think a lot of you are playing down Edwards ability. If the Pats signed him you'd probably say he's a future HoF.
And after this stint this past weekend his stock was rock bottom. I would not be surprised if they only got a 3rd for him instead of suspending him a few games.

It that a Cleveland pun?

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets...

Shefter, evidently, said it's a 3rd and a 5th. They'll be lowish picks, the 3rd is little more than the high UFA comp pick, it has value but not a lot. Stuckey's just a guy IMO.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets...

Schefter is reporting it as Chansi Stucky, Jason Trunsik, a 3rd round pick and a 5th round pick for Braylon Edwards.

I don't think they gave up anything to big to get him, which is a shame. Now if they gave up a 2nd round pick then it would be abit different.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets...

Adam Schefter says the picks could be a 3rd and 5th. Sounds like he is speculating, though.

Re: OT: Braylon Edwards to the Jets...

For all the hype, he and Derek Anderson essentially caught lightening in a bottle ONCE and neither has been the same since. Now it turns out he's emerging as a headcase to boot like KWIII. At least Mangini is finding ways to unload 'em to his fellow idiots pipeline. When they struggle in Cleveland, NY/NJ is the last place they should want to land. 'Cause when it doesn't work they'll have another scapegoat to blame it on beyond the Sanchise.
