Between Lowe, Jacobs and Brown they were consistently starting 3 UDFAs for most of the year. Early in the year it was Jordan playing a lot and Leverett some too, both also UDFAs. A coach should get the best out of players, but can we say he didn't with those guys? Some guys just aren't good. Scar was obviously amazing but we'd have some guys play terribly under him too because some guys just don't have it.

That being said, Wallace and Robinson came in with prospect pedigree where they should have shown more than they did. Again, maybe they just suck and we'll come to learn that, but it didn't seem like they were growing much. Sow regressed terribly, though there could have been some scheme impact there.

The holding calls you can go either way on if guys just aren't good enough so they have to hold or if the technique is poor. Probably some of both? The offsides and false start penalties, once again, can be poor coaching and instilling discipline or they could just be the guys on the field sucking and not being dedicated.

It's tough for me to make a sweeping judgement and assessment. But much like I felt with Mayo as a HC being a failure, where there's smoke there's usually fire. I understand it was a tough spot for him as an OL coach, but amidst the chaos I saw no signs that he was doing well with his individual part in that.

It’s really simple.

Coaching staff’s job is to get the guys playing to not suck.

Coaches decide who they put on the field.

If the guys they put on the field suck and are not dedicated THAT IS ON THE COACHES.

Coaches don't decide the roster and none of the coaches last year had any roster say. It's their job to coach players up to the best of their abilities. It's also entirely possible that the lineman aren't that good and "the best of their abilities" is rather low.

Like I said, the 2023 Pats ol was last in pass blocking. Peters wasn't the line coach in 2023.

You can look at 2019 when we had Newhouse on the line due to injuries and remember how bad the line was for a good chunk of the season. You had Belichick having to cover for and defend Newhouse in press conferences. The line coach that season was a guy named Dante Scarnecchia.

At the end of the day, the coaches aren't going to cover for bad talent and if their roster has slim pickings, their options of who to play are limited.

So, at the end of the day, or season, are we having accountability, or making excuses?

At the end of the day we should have an honest evaluation of what happened. The line has not been good for a long time. Since 2019 there have been issues at points with the talent and the depth. Multiple lineman coaches have overseen that.

If you want to hold someone accountability, hold the GM's that got us here. Wolf and Belichick. They were responsible for building that unit. When more than one coach is having issues and even the best ever at the position group is, and we objectively can say that almost all grading says the players individually are bad. We can call it a talent issue.

Peters might not be some all star, but he's not the first guy to have problems with the recent Patriots line. You roll out these same guys next year, we'll still have one of the worst lines in the league, doesn't matter who the line coach is.

The line was bad quality wise and it also had no depth. This isn't a new thing with the Patriots. They've been trending down for years. The 2023 Patriots had the worst pass blocking line in the league.

It's a **** unit. Scar wouldn't make it acceptable with the guys here and the problems predate Peters.

Here’s the thing about Scar…he wouldn’t have let things get like this in the first place. Yea Peters was given a HUGE task just like Mayo and failed. No surprise really. But I think if Scar was around, they wouldn’t have picked the dudes they did in the draft and FA. I think he’s the type of dude that will voice his displeasure…regardless if it’s about the temp in the room, his steaks over done, or if they draft trash and bring in trash through FA…

I have a hard time believing that Peters had no say in who they brought in last offseason. At OT heading into camp they brought in Okorafor and Wallace, retained Anderson, Wheatley, McDermott, and Lowe. That sucks. At OG they brought in Leverett, Jordan, and Robinson, overpaid to retain Onwenu, and retained Sow and Mafi. Not horrible but not good enough especially with Onwenu showing up in lousy condition and whatever the hell it was that went wrong with Sow. At OC they didn’t do much except counting on the Andrews’. Again not good enough. I know I’m leaving other guys out but those named were the primary OL candidates.

So either he shared blame on the bad judgment about what they needed or he failed to convince his OC, HC, and player personnel team that they needed better candidates. Either way a failure on his part and a major need for improvement. I suspect Vrabel, having spent time with the Browns in the aftermath of Peters time there, quickly judged him expendable and no great loss.

Even when they don't have personnel that should be on the field?

Yes.

At some point when you’re asked to make chicken soup and you’re given chicken ****, you have to walk away. It’s about integrity, and being accountable for your results.

I'm pretty sure if Peters could decide who he put on the field it would have been better players than what was available to him.

He didn’t get the best out of the players he had.

They didn’t even know how to line up correctly, for crissake!

It's hard to know how much is on Peters and how much is talent. We know the talent wasn't good and he often had players that weren't even on the team a week or two before but the fact that Onwenu and Sow regressed and the rookies also looked poor isn't positive. Getting hired so quickly suggests he is still well thought of in the league.

Yes.

That's silly. Nobody is walking away from coaching on ethical grounds because the front office made some poor judgment calls. You'd look like a prima donna, blaming others for making your life a little bit hard, and never get another job again.

There guys are living material lives in the top .05% of human existence. They aren't throwing that away on some manufactured, overly dramatic principle.

Integrity means sticking around (if allowed) to try and solve the problem.

Scar was a HOF level OL coach. Expectations from fans of repeating that level of excellence will result in misery. The point of being a sports fan is to find entertainment and, once in a blue moon, some legitimate joy.

Really hoping they let Lowe go he doesn't even belong on a Taxi squad. Yeah I think he's that bad: something stinks.
Demontrey Jacobs is even worse. I think Lowe can be kept. Hopefully as a backup. However, it’s not an easy transition for a LT starting in the pros as a rookie. Maybe even for a Will Campbell.

The thought last year to move the Penn State RT to LT was fraught with too many uncertainties. And Caedan Wallace character wise is not top notch to begin with.

I have seen quite a few good OT's called for not lining up on the Centers belt line.

When someone gives you Apple Sauce you cannot make an apple pie
I am glad he is not here anymore because of the bad stink from last year
But they gave him **** to work with

That said he also didn’t get any improvement out of them. When you are getting penalties in the Red Zine from Week 1 to Week 17 then the OL Coach has done a piss poor job.
