The Rams announced that Van Pelt has been hired as a senior offensive assistant. Van Pelt was the Patriots’ offensive coordinator in 2024 and he was the offensive coordinator in Cleveland for the previous four seasons.

Good for him. I appreciate his efforts last year, or at least what it appears they were (since I can't fully judge coaches from outside the building). OC here was looked at as a radioactive job last year by all accounts. AVP took it and it's pretty clear he doesn't have the play design or playcalling chops to be a "real" OC (i.e. not the "gameplan" guy under an offensive head coach like he was in CLE) but honestly I thought he did the best he could and seemed to do a good job with Maye.

Anyone here ever seen the movie Good Luck Chuck where the girl always finds her husband AFTER dating Chuck? Kind of felt that's what AVP was. Bridge year OC. Take the job no one else wanted, do a good enough job developing the young QB that a real candidate wants the job in relatively short order. Mission accomplished and I wish him the best in his next step.

He took a lot of heat but IMO he did better than expected after being dealt a lousy hand.

Job #1 was bringing the QB along and despite the lack of talent he put Maye on a track for success. Many a young QB in similar circumstances ends up traumatized.

*Yawns* stop the presses.

thats his real job, not oc

He had a ****ty ass hand. He obviously wasn’t good enough to elevate an offense beyond their ability. The offense had been terrible for three years.

Maybe he can learn how to call plays? But I doubt that he was brought in for that. Sounds like Stafford is on the way out. If he does well under McVay, he will get a label of being a McVay guy and consideration for one last shot as OC.

Glad he's landing on his feet. Was not happy he was here, but wish him no ill will.

Is this a signal that the Rams will be adding a young QB for AVP to help develop?
No it’s a sign that the Patriots are probably responsible for his contract so the Rams will let him break down film
