Your post notwithstanding, Mankins is an elite NFL guard. That has a lot to do with him getting paid like an elite NFL guard.

No he's not. He isn't even close. This isn't 2006.

And even if he was, he is a guard. Paying big money to any guard is pretty foolish imo. Guard is probably the least important position on the team. Maybe running back could be argued about cost worth. But tack on how he held out and has always been injured, there really was no reason to cave to his demands.

Prior to his holdout, Mankins had started all 16 games every year from 2005-2009.

Reluctantly, I agree. The cave-in shows how much BB thought (probably correctly) that he needed that interior position filled competently to protect Brady. Overpaid in the end. I still like Mankins.

I think he's overpaid and and elite guard. I also don't think people would be griping so much if he were a bit more durable.

The notion, though, that they could plug in Connolly and McDonald and get "about" the same level of play is definitely one of the more WTF-worthy things I've read on here recently.

Who cares if paying a guard is foolish to you? Mankins is getting paid commensurate with his play at his position, whether you personally think guards are overpaid or not. He also hadn't missed even a practice prior to signing his deal, and part of his lesser play was the result of him playing through an injury and then coming back too soon after finally getting the injury dealt with, in order to help the team. Now you, some schmo behind a computer, want to screw him out of his money for that?

Think before posting.

It is unreasonable to confuse folks with facts.

Mankins is a LG which in my opinion is in a tie with RT for the most important lineman behind the LT. The LG on any other team matches up with Vince Wilfork when they face us if that tells you anything.

It's also worth noting that inside pressure is what lost us the Super Bowl in 2011, and most of that occurred because Mankins was playing on a blown knee.

Elite or not he's still being overpaid (for his current production). In reality, I'm fine with that given his past performance. Not all money should be for future performance but also a reward for past performance.

And it's worth noting that he came back to play last year in less than a year from his injury. With another off-season to finish healing, we should expect his performance to be better this year. Let's see how he does this year before we start complaining about his tax bracket.

Markus Zusevics is a tackle but has been playing guard in camp, I think his versatility and the fact he spent last year in house makes me think he has the inside track to the 53 man roster.

Cannon and Zus have had many reps as guards because Connolly and McDonald aren't there.

I see Zus and competing with Green for a roster spot. although I am fine with both making the 53.

Interesting, the Seahawks claimed Perez Ashford off waivers.

I just assumed nobody would put a claim in for him.

Seattle waived/injured WR Greg Herd to make room for him.

I wonder why BB let him go?

I'd posted his vids previously. Very acrobatic going after the ball in traffic...just not against top competition. I can see why a team would be interested. Did he make a pass at BB's GF?

Least important? Have you not paid attention to defenses looking to create inside pressure through the A Gaps since the league pushed towards ridiculous passing attempts?

Guards are more important now than ever before.
