Offseason player acquisition thread

Because Maye loves throwing to his TE’s, and Warren could end up being his long term Travis Kelce. They don’t need him so much for next season as they will long term. Henry is a good player, but he’s on the downside of his career, and he’s hurt fairly often. Get Warren in here now, get them familiar with playing together, and they may have an All Pro caliber TE for Maye to rely on when situations get tough. He’s also a really good blocker, which they could really use at the position.
i fully understand your point and the benefit of such a TE for Maye as a security blanket on third downs and Redzone but I just don't know if I would put much value in this position to not select a much needed pass rusher or OT which both have great value and fill in a big need

The Chiefs are proof that an elite TE is just as effective as a top WR on the got to have it plays that win games.

To your point, the team needs help at a number of positions. Draft the BPA that is not a QB.

Overseas, I get why people are looking at the draft in terms of need, I’m looking at it in terms of trying to get the best players for the longer term build. I addressed OT in free agency with Jackson, and with Conerly in the draft. This draft is different than most in that the drop off between top ten picks and the next 30 after that is minimal. There is no Joe Alt in this class, and there are questions about whether Campbell can be a left tackle in the Pro’s. I actually think that Conerly is the best prospect for left tackle, and have Simmons right there with him, except he is coming off an ACL and may not be ready when the season starts. Campbell could be the best OL in the draft, but the Patriots can’t afford to use the #4 pick on a Guard. Conerly has everything I want to see in a left tackle. He has the size, aggression, and he’s the best athlete of the tackle class.

As for Warren, I think he’s the best weapon they can get for Maye in this draft. The WR class is nowhere near as good as last years was, and Warren is probably the best receiving option they can get this draft.

i would agree but add that in the first 2-3 rounds I would consider positional value as a factor in the decision because RB and S can be signed relatively cheap in FA and I would add TE there as well with Henry

Double dip everywhere we can. I like this plan. I do agree one or all might not even wind up available at all. But for now let's assume this plan is realistic I would slightly alter and go after 2 edge rushers in free agency. This would allow us to draft Tet instead and then we double dip at WR, Edge, and Tackle. Grab a solid starting corner to pair with Gonzo and a MLB and this team will be competing next year.
I'm totally all in on drafting Carter at 4.. it's a huge need and we need pass rush help.. adding chase young at DE.. also... I'd like ward in SF as the veteran CB opposite Gonzo... unless Alex Austin continues to improve at that spot. Definitely also draft at MLB, OLB in the draft I want Vrabels eyes only on the LB position! The Ravens haven't extended Stanley yet wich is interesting.. Henry has had a resurgence running behind him.

I thought we could use a thread to discuss both free agency and draft possibilities.

I like the ideas in this article: Perry: Five players Patriots should target this offseason

Sign Higgins, Staley, Sweat, trade for Tom, and draft Abdul Carter. This will be expensive but we have over $100 million in cap space.

It’s a bit early, but please share your ideas here.
Higgins is definitely a reality for us.. I don't buy that Cincy is going to resign him when they have to sign chase. I've also mentioned the idea of trading for a WR.. DK metcalf, DJ Moore or Chris Olave.

Dan Moore in Pittsburgh at LT is an Upgrade over Lowe.. Chase young at DE, chavaious ward at CB, take Carter at #4.. adding depth at DT,DE...

I agree. And I think when you look at it in terms of receivers, instead of just wide receivers, Warren is the best receiving option in this class, and they could pick up a 2nd round pick by trading down around 8, take Warren and then trade that pick to move back into the first for their Tackle.

Ronnie Stanley and Jaylon Moore as OT.

Higgins and Goodwin at WR.

Carter in the draft or Dayo Odeyingbo at edge.

Maybe Kinlaw at DT, depending on system.

By the time of the draft, we will know whether we signed a S or TE or RB in free agency. If not, then they should not be excluded.

I think what really happens is that when the values are close, teams reasonably choose a position they need much more.

Also, scarcity of a position later in the draft is relevant. For example, if there are two players very close in value in the 2nd (say a DT and a CB), it would make a difference if there will be many players available at one of the positions later in the draft.

But these are fine points. The general principle should be BPA, and if the BPA is a QB we should trade down if we can.

Id love Higgins man but some of the clippings have been concerning. He may take less to stay in cincy. I also read they could tag him for $26m which is likely the low end of what his price range may be and cincy has the space next year. Though if i were them id probably want to use that money on the defense.

Love the thought of stanley but im a little hesitant to get my hopes up on bmore not extending him lol same with the aj brown chatter, not sure if my heart can take getting hopes again!

I think most of us agree the OL needs 2 signings (2 ot’s or ot plus iol). This plus onwenu, strange and/or andrews plus a day 2 or 3 pick, plus layden potentially making a leap could hopefully field us a solid 5.

Cincy is in a pickle becuase they have to pay chase. Hard to see them paying both guys.. north of 30m.. lol I'm with you.. it's just our hopes and desires of wanting our team to have top tier talent.. this is what years if bad drafting has done to us.. I do like the potential of Wallace and Robinson.. under Vrabel I expect both lines to be stout the DL and OL as that's where it starts.

Agreed! Frankenstein D wise is probably a spot/sub rusher at this point in his career.. Flowers is he stil in the league?
Flowers wrecked his knee I think. Miami signed him but he didn't last. I think he failed his physical to come back to us. Not for sure.

Higgins and Hunter plus Douglas and Boutte is a good group.

Flowers had some seasons injury plagued since he left NE.. he was good here as he was put in positions to succeed... we need depth at every position on the front.. this season you'd think would be a lesson.

True long term they probably can’t keep both wr’s. If they feel like like they can focus their draft on defensive needs they might want to explore tagging higgins for one last run though, not sure. I wouldve thought a 2nd tag would cost alot more than 26m

Can they tag him a 2nd time?? Did they tag chase as well? I'm not sure.. yes thier defense regressed big time.. they have 2 great edge rushers.. but they need upgrades to there front and secondary..
