Officiating crew for IND-NE: headed by Scott Green

Seems like excuses are coming already.

One of the Pats posters here said it right, Good teams overcome bad calls.

unless theyre playing teams ALMOST as good....

I'm very concerned about the officiating going into this game.
2006 playoffs was an abomination.
2007 was pretty bad, luckily, the Pats were THAT much better that year.
2008 more sketchy calls as mentioned.

But wait, it's not just against the Pats either.
2005 Steelers were almost hijacked
2008 playoffs the Chargers were bombarded with piss poor officiating.

If the calls are going to be tight, then I'd like to see the Colts line get flagged for the endless holding they tend to do, or for their own DBs to get flagged for the same ticky tack and sometimes even non-existent fouls out there.

The latter is sarcasm just so I'm clear.

O.k. we are only talking through week 5 which makes much more sense. Small sample size. If anything this is a good thing then as there will be some regression to the mean. In other words, he's due.

That's why I cited last year's stats thru week 16 which was a larger sample size.........

YouTube - Week 9 - Indianapolis Colts 18-15 New England Patriots

Last years game. The 15 yard personal foul call which cost the game, and the robbing of a two point conversion.

In the 2007 game, that Hobbs penalty was a joke. It also seemed like we always were called for redzone holding to back us up.

What's amazing was the Pats defense didn't give up a TD once the ball was spotted at the one yd line.

I really hope Scott Green just lets the players play from both teams. I want to see good pace to this game from these two legend qbs.

Really?

Am I at a San Diego Chargers board?

You guys are whining about officiating and the game hasn't even started.

Good teams win despite bad officiating.

2007 every week whiners came in here and told us we were undefeated because of officiating. They were losers, sore losers, who didn't handle defeat like sportsmen, with dignity and pride.

Don't be that guy.

How many hundreds of millions are bet on these games and how much are refs paid?

It is the next huge scandal that the NFL will have to face in the future.

This explains why there are some many upsets. Just a few holding or PI calls can change the outcome of a game.

well said..... overall I like Goodell ALOT. he is a no BS kinda guy like BB. I respect that...... but PI calls need to be reviewed.

interesting that you bring up this situAtion...... it has to happen, but on a smaller scale. 1 big play from a bogus penalty can change the entire game.

People might say that such a thing could never happen in a professional sport like football but it just happened in basketball right? And I suspect that what was exposed in basketball is just the tip of the iceberg.

It is possible that tampering with the officials is widespread in NFL. It is easy to hide it; holding happens on every play and the refs can easily change the outcome of a game with a few strategic holding calls. It can be disguised by only calling it a few crucial times so the number of calls against each team evens out.

Ever seen a holding call after a long completion during a crucial part of game? I certainly have. You have to wonder. Ever seen a replay when the holding looked minor compared the rough treatment that Wilfork gets when he rushes.

Speaking of which the lack of holding can also be crucial. Indy almost never gets called for holding; but they do it every time Manning passes. Manning has all day to sit back and pick apart a D. Wilfork is held almost every play when he rushes but you won't see ti flagged on Sunday night.

Didn't they call back a 100 yard interception return by Cromartie (which did about 100 zigzags, he wanted to pass out) and they called it back for a lame holding call? Or was it a legit call?
