The TOs and the TD at the end of the half were uncharacteristic of a BB team. The defense was disgusting on that play. Almost all of these players were here last year. They should know better.

The ref missed the call, but Parker needs to go get the ball on that pick. It’s what he’s supposed to do. It’s why he’s here. He’s not here to be N’Keal Harry. Why the hell are they throwing at Howard anyway?

They played even with Miami on the road, but Miami is not a good football team, at least not yet. They lost by 13.

They can beat Pittsburgh if they play better. Pittsburgh, Miami: these are the easier games. They should win these games.

We don't really know if Miami is a good football team or not yet ... they (and every other team, against whom they are judged) have only played 1 game.

If recent history is any indication, their defense is certainly good. Their offense added talent at WR. Solid STs. They strike me as a good football team with a not-very-good QB.

They scored SEVEN points!! SEVEN!! That is winning you exactly ZERO GAMES in the NFL!

In fact, the offense let up seven points so that is akin to being shut out!
Just like last year, the defense could not get off the field towards the end of the game. Miami just ran out the last 5 minutes of the game.

Watching Shaq Mason road grade last night, while Owenu and Strange were getting run over made me sick. You will never justify those moves to me, NEVER! Strange is not a first round talent, not even close!

The Pats are extremely lucky that TJ Watt got hurt, but this is going to be a long season.

Shaq Mason got beat clean, 1-on-1, on a 3rd-and-1 last night which resulted in a TFL. If that had been Strange (or any OL wearing a Patriots' uniform), you and several others would've been several chapters deep in your next novel about the Patriots and BB sucking.

Speaking of rainbow passes, I mentioned to my friends who were watching the game with me that he reminded me of Drew Bledsoe. These long looping passes are not going to cut it in this era of the NFL. Hell, they didn't cut it in the later half of Drew's career.

Peyton Manning broke the single season passing record less than a decade ago throwing rainbow passes. If you watch yesterday’s highlights, plenty of some of the biggest plays we’re rainbow passes.

People are making way too much of this crap. Yesterday the problems wasn’t the arch of Jones’ passes, it was the accuracy. He was off for a lot of the game.

And if Drew Bledsoe had a quick release and wasn’t a complete statue that needed to take a seven step drop every pass, he probably would be a superstar in this league today if he was around. His deep ball passing might be the only thing of his game that translates to today’s NFL. Bledsoe’s problem was that the speed of the game got too fast for his drop back and sit in the pocket style. The man had a cannon for an arm.

For all the people saying Dugger was great, the 4th&7 TD was mostly on him. But then again it can be questioned why he was back and DMac was at the LoS. Otherwise he did have a strong game though with some great solo tackles.

I think he had a great game overall, but you're right. He's a guy who's going to be elite in the box, and can cover in certain matchups, but he probably shouldn't ever be a deep-middle kind of safety. Had Phillips already gone down by that point? If so, I wonder if that playcall had him in that spot instead of Dugger usually. It's not a bad idea to try to confuse Tua by rotating the safeties into places he isn't expecting them, especially if you're guarding against a 4th and 7, but that's not Dugger's bread and butter.

Phillips got injured the play before. Kind of explains why coverage got blown it was literally the next play, so probably some confusion from Dugger who was covering for Philips maybe.

This whole coaching by commitee will be a complete fail, o-line, qb coach and play calling to be the worst by far. We are a 7 point offense, defense played well enough against Tua.
Can't turn the ball over in the redzone (Mac interception) and can't fumble the ball in Miami's territory(Agholor) and of course can't give away two scores ( fumble for a td) and (last play of 2nd qtr). I think overall it was an evenly matched game. Most of these games end up coming down to 2 or 3 plays which unfortunately we were on the wrong end of yesterday.

You're take here is an overreaction. Let's give it a few weeks and see if we can cut down on the turnovers.

The Pats scored more points in freezing gale winds in Buffalo last December than they did yesterday.

I'd like to think they are a whole lot better than the worst offense in the league.

throwing an interception in the end zone and giving up points doesn't help and when you're driving and fumble, it's not going to be pretty. I thought we did some good things offensively yesterday, but have to cut down on turnovers.

The two calls I don't like that come to mind are 2nd and 17 and they run (As Pat fans, when have we ever seen that play work) and the 3rd and 3 and they run Montgomery up the middle for no gain. I know these are 2nd guesses, which I hate, but me and the family were all scratching our heads as they were happening in real time.

In the end, as BB says, we have to play better.

Before anyone jumps, yes I know you really can't do this. But if you take away the strip sack fumble returned for a TD and the 4th and 7 play at the end of the half. the score would have been 7-6. This game literally came down to two plays.

I can live with the 3rd and 3 conceptually, because I have to believe it was a call that Mac made after seeing the defense. If he got a look that made him think they could catch the D for 3 on the ground, I'm okay with that philosophy, even if the results on that play weren't good. If you always pass on 3rd down, defenses will key on that.

I agree on 2nd and 17 though. Unless you've got a "can't miss" run play against that look where you know you can get at least 9-10 of those yards as a bit of a freebie, I want two cracks at a big pass play there instead.

Great stat:

The sad thing is that this defense used to be in past years an opportunistic defense that created a lot of turnovers. In the first dynasty era, it was the calling card of the defense. We really haven't seen that as much in recent years.

I've come in late to this thread, so forgive me if this already been discussed/answered: There was a play where a Dolphin was called down before the ball came out, where the ball was lodged loose with only the crown of the player's head touching the ground. Is the head considered down in the NFL? He was basically upside down, so nothing else was touching yet. I thought at that time of the game it would have been worth challenging, but I don't know that part of the rule.

Agree on 3rd and 3 Montgomery.

The 2nd and long run has worked a lot in the past. If you get 8 or 9 yards there, you have 3rd and long rather than 3rd and forever.

Painful to watch but these are the plays that are the difference between winning and losing: I'm still not sure, was it Brown's fault? I am kind of leaning toward Mac but I'm not Dante. lol I know there needs to be better communication though.

I thought they had chances yesterday. Multiple balls should have been picked. Some fumbles by the Phins too recovered by Phins.

Kind of reminds me of that stat that came out during deflategate which showed the Patriots fumbled as much as other teams, but ended up recovering more balls than other teams.

Absolutely, the difference in this game literally was 2-3 plays.
