My thoughts:

1) The coaching staff is just as much at fault for this loss as the D is

- on the 2nd scoring drive we ran the ball down their throats with Gillislee. We come back the next drive with Lewis in the backfield. Didn't make sense to me. They were on their heels and couldn't stop the power running the previous drive. Should have went right back to it.

2) It's a copycat league. Teams are gonna drop 8, press man, and clog the middle. We need to be able to run on a 3 man line. We also need to be able to hit on outside routes: Go's, Comebacks, Outs, etc.. some draws to Lewis

3) the defensive scheme was horrible, and so were a lot of our players. Belichick and Patricia will correct it. Just hope we have the horses to make it work

4) Gronk looked slow all night. Hopefully just a case of knocking off some rust.

5) 19-0 talk was ridiculous. We got our yearly stinker out of the way early. Better to peak after Thanksgiving

6) Brady isn't done. He's gonna light up the Saints next week

Great take by BB:

“We just really weren't competitive enough, especially on offense and defense.”

Special teams was what most people feared most with KC weapons and NE missing so many key pieces plus installing brand new guys . and they did very well indeed esp. in coverage..

One exception was running into the kicker on consecutive plays. Not a great look.

Richards played horrible and why the hell was he playing as a LB on some plays? Malcolm Butler is either having a bad spell or has hit his ceiling. He is not playing well and with him being in his final season and Rowe getting better, i wouldnt be surprised if butler is traded.

I didn't have a great idea how those guys looked last night beyond a few plays. I believe Gilmore is definitely our best corner, despite the blown coverage which could have been McCourty's fault.

Rowe seemed to do just fine. I heard Butler wasn't all that good. I do recall a replay where they showed Gilmore and Rowe having tight coverage and a receiver getting separation on a deep route against Butler.

That guy better step it up if he wants his pay day.

You know what else?

Bob Costas is a little doosh bag. If NE had lost in OT he would love the present OT format. What is wrong with playing defense and stopping the other team from scoring a TD? Or, holding them to a FG? The Falcons put themselves in that position to lose the game by a coin flip.

Bobbie, go back to the make up counter at Nordstrums to see what beauty products are new this fall.

Prob already posted but Richards played 41 snaps last night after 16 all last year.

How many of those 41 snaps were at LB? We need to either sign a LB or trade for one. Is Mychal Kendricks still available for trade?

Harmon said lowest energy on sideline in the 5 years he's been here. Well that's great.
I thought they looked flat even when up 17-7....perhaps cuz "heart" guys like Edelman, ninkovich and blount r gone

Why do you think Richards played horrible? I'm rewatching the game right now and would like to know what to look for.

I'm in the first quarter and Richards is playing well imo. So far he has a few solid tackles and a forced fumble.

Yeah, that's just weird. Don't really understand why a team wouldn't get up for the season opener, especially at home on a banner-raising night on national television. Whatever the cause is, they'll have to deal with that quick. I don't think this is a 2009 Patriots scenario, still too many guys with 2 rings on this team. Hopefully they just got ****y and learned a clear, humiliating lesson in the price of that.

I'm still in the first quarter of the rewatch but as of right now I'm seeing miscommunication or a lack of continuity as the culprit especially during all those chippy crossing routes KC threw at them.

Brady can talk about all the mistakes but he was one of the worst out there on offense, anyone who think's he wasn't horrible tonight is deluding themselves, it was airball city.

44.4% completion percentage is horrendous.

Oh, so now Steph Curry can't shoot either?

Maybe this is what Brady was referring to when he talked about the attitude of the team last night.

Say what you will about Alex Smith but that guy knows how to look off defenders to clear out throwing lanes.

This is from KC's first TD.

At the snap:

Right after the snap:

Look how he moves Hightower to the right during the his windup.
I'll draw two X's as possible targets. Looking at this screenshot which X do you think he's throwing to?

He threw it to the left X. Hightower moved to the right and Harris moves to his left and TD. (The ball is circled)

Positive: I haven't committed suicide following the game.

Negative: Pretty much everything else hahaha

I liked it so much better when it was just "Say what you will about Alex Smith"

Oh dear god, please don't try to justify smith as a top tier QB. He is a below average QB at best. He's been in the league since 2005 we know his ceiling. The fact he had a career day speaks volumes on how poor our front 7 is.
