I believe contending for the division is plausible next season IF the trenches are addressed. And yes, that seems ridiculous to say because going into week 1 it was said that they were the strength. Well they aren’t. They’re actually a horrible liability.

Trent Brown is unreliable and can’t be extended and Wynn is now in bust territory. Replacing both will be a tall task for next year. And on defense I honestly don’t know what to do but they have to get some run stuffers. And the linebackers HAVE to be upgraded. Especially in the speed department. Hightower is just a guy now who seems like he’s just collecting a check and Van Noy is a nice piece and that’s about it. Bentley is a big question mark but it’s his 4th year, what is he?

Having -1 rushing yards in a game is outright horrifying.

How much longer does Stevenson have to remain in the doghouse?
Not for nothing, but wasn’t it reported he had a thumb injury right before his fumble game ? Maybe that’s another reason he isn’t playing.

The whole issue is expectations. If you were like me and were hoping for a season like last years Chargers where Herbert shows he a franchise guy despite the team going 7-9 you’re happy. If you were someone hoping for a season where maybe the division was in play, or at least the wildcard, you’re gonna be pretty letdown.

Maybe. We don't know yet. There is, in terms of number of games, more than 75% of the regular season to be played, and 5-of-6 total AFCE games remain in front of the Patriots.

If they begin to play better on a consistent basis, there's a good chance they find their way into the playoffs, IMO. This team still has holes to fill (MLB being the most obvious), and my hope is that they'll be better in 1-3 years than they are now (from a personnel perspective), but I don't think they're chopped liver for this season.

There's no way this is a playoff caliber team if they can't run the ball or stop the run. We can't expect Mac to carry this team on his arm while being assaulted every time he drops back.

Which is effectively the same as saying, "there is no way any football team can win many games if they can't run the ball or stop the run consistently", a fundamental truth of football.

My hope is that they start playing better. The defensive line looked better against the run tonight but the LBs were not good. I'd like to see more Anderson and less Wise. I'm not sure how we solve the LB issue; Dugger plays well in that role but he shouldn't be expected to do it full-time.

I also think they need one more true, 3-down edge defender. Van Noy is supposed to be that, but he's pretty washed. I think he'll give us a good game here or there, but he can't be reliably counted on. Winovich and Uche are both one-dimensional (good in their roles, but not 3-down players at the moment). Maybe that becomes Perkins in a season or two.

Godchaux looked better tonight which was encouraging. Carl Davis seems 'meh' after a strong preseason. Barmore is fantastic - so raw, yet his production and activity is very impressive. High motor, plays hard, no effort issues that I see - still early but it looks like they nailed that pick. They need more of that going forward.

They also need a young running mate for Barmore to groom next to him.

Overall, I am proud of the Patriots play last night. They played hard for the entire game. They continued to take some mistakes, but they played better than the last 3 games. Mac was on fire, the receivers were getting open and hanging onto the ball. Bucs receivers had the dropsies.

Bucs made a lot of mistakes, dropped a lot of ball, called for a lot of penalties, and not called for a lot of penalties.

Patriots OL repeated the pattern of doing nothing to protect Mac in the first half, got a little better in the second half.

4th and 3, I thought they had to go for it. The distance was too long and there was too much time. I would have been fine with putting the game on Macs shoulders.

a great game with some pluses despite the loss. Mac looked more comfortable right from the start even under a lot of pressure. He is getting into a rhythm. the D is improving.. a bit. Some caveats. The rain was a leveller in this game and Brady seemed to struggle with it more than mac. Mac was facing a second string secondary so as much as i want to see this as his arrival i think we might need to temper that excitement a bit. The line is still shockingly bad but at least Mac coped with the blitz well.

This team is a turnover machine and you can't blame the rookie qb. The o line is their greatest weakness.

Jc jackson played awesome. Too bad the defense doesnt put in effort like that all the time.

Nunchucks/Dreighver (above)....Good summaries , its how I thought the game went as well. Some things still to sort out but still moving forwards.

Yeah, then imagine how hard must to waste all this effort on a dumb 56 yard fg call.

Pretty disgusting actually
I bet that call would of been genius by BB had it gone in huh? Or would it still be disgusting..

I will never know, since I still cant see past the 4th dimension, Im stuck with the reality of the bad call forever.

careful what you say in this thread. Tread lightly. No criticism allowed.

we’re 1-3 and in a bad spot to miss the playoffs. Mac Jones is very good but didn’t we already know this? Our defense is good but didn’t we already know this??? How bout you take a shot downfield once or twice? How about going for it instead of kicking an impossible field goal?

“you are what your record says you are”
So do your posts.

Major Themes: Belichick remains an elite defensive mastermind goat, Brady remains a clutch QB goat, Mac Jones has sky-high franchise QB potential, the OLine continues to suck.

1. Patriots' Defense played great. Really stepped up especially the secondary. JC Jackson held his own against Evans. J.Jones was solid. Judon is mini-LT. Brady only had a 70 QB rating.

2. Loved Steve Belichick calling the defensive plays and also making wild animal faces on the sidelines. He called a great defensive game. Mad Dog Steve. Mad Max Steve.

3. Mac Jones is the real deal QB as I've been saying for a year. Elite accuracy, touchness, decision making, leadership, he's a legit franchise QB with a ton of potential. Very tough kid who keeps taking vicious hits.

4. OLine continues to be garbage. Why keep Karras on the bench. Herron and Durant kept swapping at RT in the game, 4th straight week of ineptitude. Fire Cirillo the OLine coach.

5. Both TEs finally got a chance to get some red zone TDs. Only took 4 weeks to figure out.

6. Patriots offense and OC could only score 17 against a terrible Bucs secondary missing its 3 starting cornerbacks. Disappointing how often the offense was stopped and unable to take advantage of a very bad Bucs secondary. Way too many Pats drives ended in 4th-and-25.

7. This game felt a lot like the 2001 Superbowl where the Pats defense held up its end in stopping the explosive Bucs, but this time around we have a way sh-ttier offensive coordinator. McD is no Charlie Weiss. Last Pats series was 3 straight incomplete spread shotgun passes.

8. A 1-3 record really hurts and the Pats should change the fraud OC next year, as well as think about trading some old vets now for picks and let younger guys play.

Team played hard but ultimately the D, for the second week allowed long drives resulting in scores.

Bottom lines is if the D in the 4 is completely unreliable.
Kinda like your posts.

The Good:

1. Mac under pressure. Good performance by the kid hanging in the pocket while getting clobbered.
2. Going 67% (2 - 3) in RZ. It was at 25% 1st three games.

The Bad:

1. Getting pushed around in the trenches: -1 rushing yds while allowing 119 yds. Not creating enough QB pressures.
2. Going 2-9 in 3rd down efficiency.
3. TO differential at -2
4. TOP -8 minutes
5. Way too many stalled drives due to penalties, sacks, TOs, and 3rd down inefficiency. Being too one dimensional.
6. The Loss because of 1 thru 5.

Penalties were even (7-74 vs 8-77) for both teams, so not the reason for this loss.

There's no way this is a playoff caliber team if they can't run the ball or stop the run. We can't expect Mac to carry this team on his arm while being assaulted every time he drops back.

Patriot Drives:
PUNT
PUNT
INT
TD

FUMBLE

FG
MISSED FG
Thanks for the game report. Got any pictures of hot FL college women....way more helpful. Cheers, mate!

Bucs made a lot of mistakes, dropped a lot of ball, called for a lot of penalties, and not called for a lot of penalties.
So was the Patriots. And the refs basically drive the patriots downfield on the last drive on their own.

The D played hard but I thought the Bucs could move the ball fairly well down the field. The D played great in the RZ but he Bucs played sloppy too. They had the opportunities to put 30 on the board not for their own mistakes. Evans dropped a probable TD pass that would at least put them in 1st & goal at the 5 and Browns flat out dropped a TD.

On offense, Mac was good but I honestly didn’t see anything different that the first 3 games. They played one of the 2 worst pass defense in the NFL. The Bucs were missing their three starting CB, their starting safety and were playing a guy that had 3 practices in a year. To put that in context, it’s like the patriots were playing without Gilmore, JC, JJ and DMac.
