As bad as we were today, we were one 3rd & 10 stop from getting the chance to have a game winning TD drive. The way some of the pink hats and Brady ballwashers are going on you'd think we'd lost 50 to zip. Lest we also never forget that Josh Allan was regarded as a complete bust after his first season. Perspective.
If you go out spending big money on receivers then you have to give up something else. Bill wants to win running the ball and defense, which people were all over this year as working, now all of the sudden its the pass catchers? The pats in now way have bad pass catchers at all. I have seen worse for the pats go to the superbowl. Defense and the run game has given them the record they have now. In order to beat the really good teams in this league you have to have a QB who can be special, and as a rookie, we dont know if we have that yet. Thats pretty much it.
That‘s the thing. Before the season, many people were saying the Pats would be lucky to get nine wins. They are likely to go 10-7 or 11-6 and make the playoffs. If you told people before the season that was what they would do this year, most people would say that would be a very successful season.
The problem is the seven game winning streak inflated people’s expectations exponentially. I admit I was there with them. Now people before Indy were talking first round byes and potential Super Bowl appearances. Unfortunately, those expectations were a bit premature.
I agree. I thought they would be lucky to get 6 wins. Very surprised at how well they played against the Charger, at Carolina and against the Browns. So, I think this has been a good year so far. Much more enjoyable than last year!
But this team is built to play on a razors edge. They have to be perfect. There is no other way for them to win against the upper level teams. I think it has always been that way.
If Mac wasn't there I did want them to take a LB. But Mac is legit. He isn't the problem. Team has to stop getting cute with the crappy spread shotgun and repeated attempts to pretend NKeal Harry is a NFL wide receiver

not sure id say perfect, but they do have to play relatively clean with their opponents to win. I said before the game that we have to at least tie the turnovers battle and the special team battle to be able to win these games. That still allows some leeway for mistakes.
Take the last 2 games for example…. In indy you take away the blocked punt and st is about even(+7 points there). Take away one mac int and to is even (3 points). With those 10 points we are up 7 late and the Taylor run does not happen without our d pressing for a 3 and out. By then our d had figured out the colts and were cruising at that point . We win imo.
Against buffalo st was essentially even. Jcj holds onto a pick that hit him square in the hands and to is even . At that point we have the ball in their territory down 5. Still a toss up at that point but its a very winnable game. If memory serves correct this goes for all our losses , all are very winnable with to and st evened up. some were STILL winnable and just a play away WITH the turnovers/blocked punts. this team has shown it can play with anybody thus far.
So I wouldn’t say they have to be perfect, they just need to be able to even up the mistakes and play comparatively clean with the opponent. If we can WIN turnovers and the st battle you could see a serious run. Thats the disheartening thing though is bb coached teams normally kill it in turnovers and we emphasize st more than any team. But here we are in December and both are still costing us games. Unfortunately I don’t see this team playing clean enough 4 games in a row against the elites and as you intimated we do not have the horses to overcome losing turnovers or a st calamity.
The Patriots were out coached, outhit, and outplayed Sunday. It looked like the Bills wanted it more from their first play from scrimmage. The Patriots need to win their last two to get in to the playoffs. Bad day for their defense, their offense, and Mac Jones. Time to put the last couple of weeks in rear view mirror and reset for what is left of the season.
Rookie qbs have to deal with so much in the first year. New coach, teammates, city, offense, increased complexity of offense, new and more complex defenses, better athletes on defense, much longer season and possibly more that i don't think you can fairly judge if he is legit yet. He seems to be going backwards but has looked great at times. The line didn't help him today and missing Agholors ability to stretch the field and Bounre being a bit part player today didnt help either.
On what basis do you say Mac is legit? He can not throw more than 7 yards down the center of the field and outside the numbers is an impossibility. Accuracy has really deteriorated as season has worn on. Last two games he has been terrible...so how is he "legit"?
He was good for a half against Indy and not so good yesterday but he wasn’t the reason why we lost. We don’t know what Mac’s ceiling is. Next season we’ll have a much better idea once he has off-season of work like Brady went through off his rookie season. That will tell us a lot about him.
So what's your plan? Bin Mac and draft another rookie? Sign Andy Dalton? Let's have some answers, not just ridiculous judgements on a kid one season out of college.

No plan. Mac is our QB but I think next year is huge for him. He needs to hit the gym 24x7 this offseason and get his body and arm stronger. He does not have an NFL caliber arm so that is most critical. I believe and hope the mental aspects of the game will improve because he is a smart kid but his talent level is low so he has to make up for that with his mind.
Why do people think this team has struggled so bad at home? Is it the pressure of the home crowd? It is so strange to see the team perform so poorly at home.
I do think rookie QBs in general improve strength as they get their bodies developed into NFL ready bodies. I am not sure how much Mac can improve which is why I mentioned the mental aspects improving as well.
There is a reason he was sitting there at 15 for us. He lacked the physical talent of the other 4 QBs. I do think he can improve because his body was so bad coming into this season.
According to QB guru jordan palmer you can to a degree but you can't go from a noodle arm to a cannon. With Mac from a few pics i've seen he didn't look like he ever did much conditioning/weights so that alone might help him.

You told me a week ago that we should wait 5 years and evaluate him then? You threw out his success in the season when it didn’t fit your agenda, but bring up a bad game as soon as he has a couple of rough outings. Jones has been the best QB this rookie class, by far. Feel free to try and compare him to all the other rookie QB’s? Oh, that’s right, you have to wait 5 years to do that, in the mean time you will just sh.t on him any time he has a bad game. Total hypocrite.

Tommy Boy doesn’t exactly have a strong arm either, so let’s not make a big deal of Mac’s arm. We didn’t lose to Indy and Buffalo because of Mac’s arm. We lost because we were outplayed and outcoached.
Brady improved his arm strength. No way he had Bledsoe’s arm in 2001. He worked like a dog at it. He still does.
Moses Cabrera can prescribe a series of exercises to improve overall body strength, including arm strength. That’s something Mac needs desperately; he looks like an ordinary college kid so there’s a lot of room for growth. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Mac work with Tom House during the off-season.
