Some comments:

  • This loss was on the defense. I don't get the strategy today. Ok, I get what they were trying to do, but I don't get why they didn't abandon it when it wasn't effective. They played to keep everything in front of them and willing to give up 5-10 yard chunk plays rather than the big time plays. But this strategy doesn't work i you consistently allow first downs on first or second down. They needed to be more aggressive on defense.
  • With all the Bills o-linemen out of the game, I am surprised how much trouble they had getting pressure on Allen for large chunks of this game. The Pats really didn't have to worry about the run. The front four's job was to keep Allen in the pocket and put pressure on him. Everyone knows that if Allen rolls right, he is far more likely to make a big play than if he stays in the pocket under pressure. They failed for most of the game.
  • I don't know what happened, but this team has gotten stupid again and forgot how to tackle. Too many dumb penalties that either gave the Bills new life or put the Pats' offense in a hole. There were far too many plays that when from poor tackling extended plays and drives. I remember early in the game, Duggar had Singletary dead to rights for a short yard gain on 2nd and 10 on the sideline and instead of easily pushing him out of bounds Duggar tried to strip the ball and Singletary dragged him for an additional seven or eight yards and the first down. Instead of 3rd and 7 or 8 or so, it was first down.
  • Flying under the radar of an awful defensive performance was another bad performance by the special teams. Bailey was inconsistent with punts. Gunner dropped a return and luckily recovered it. The Pats allowed the Bills get to the 35 on an important kick off.
  • I will still never get why they seem to only use Bourne sparingly. I get he was out all week, but why wait until the fourth quarter to target him? He is still the Pats' best WR.
  • I would say this may be Jones' worst game overall. His receivers did him no favors dropping some very catchable balls. But he was his most inconsistent.
  • The Pats should have run more early. They did seem to get away from it earlier in the game. On their first drive, they ran once for no gain and then two passes for a three and out. On second drive, they ran ten of 13 plays and scored a TD. On the third drive, they passed three time with no runs with an INT. Then the next drive was a three and out with the Pats running once for one yards. On the last drive of the first half that ended with a punt, it was five plays with only one run which was by Jones.
  • To much of the stuff I listed above, the Patriots let the Bills dictate how this game was played. The Pats needed to take away the pass and play physical on defense and serve a heavy dose of running on offense and out physical the Bills' defense. Instead, the Pats played largely a soft zone defense allowing Allen to pick apart the holes in the zone and the Pats passed way too much and gave up on the run until midway through the third quarter. The Pats played the way the Bills wanted them to.
  • I am sorry, can we all admit that Jonnu Smith is a bust? This was a game the Pats needed a guy like him and the only time he his name was called was when he committed a penalty (granted it was ticky tack).
  • Although the first round bye is out the window now, the Pats still have some hope to win the division. The Chiefs would have to lose their last two games and the Titans would have to lose one more for the Pats to get the bye which is extremely doubtful. All the Pats can do is win their last two and then hope the Bills lose one of their last two. I am definitely not betting on it, but it isn't out of the realm of possibilities. But right now the Pats just need to take care of business the last two weeks and get themselves right again or it really won't matter anyway.
  • I am concerned that the Pats may have peaked too early like they did in 2019. Most of the time a bye week is a good thing. But the bye looks to have been a negative for the Pats. All the energy and momentum they had before the bye seems to be gone. They were a passive team today.

I’m sure NE has a similar reporter, but this guy constantly antagonizes the players.
NE thrives on this type of reporter. They think it proves they’re unbiased and not drinking the Kool-Aid. Most of the time they just have an agenda or just show themselves as fools, or both.

Curly Haired Boyfriend (Dan Shaugnessy) is exhibit A, which is funnier because he’s a baseball guy first and foremost. The CHB nickname came from Carl Everett 20 years ago, whose skin he really got under.

There’s a difference between relying on the D and needing the D to force ONE punt or get one turnover in an entire game. Even after all of the offense’s early-game struggles, if JC made the pick (or the 4th down tackle) or Bryant held up in coverage on big 3rd downs, we could have won.

Agree.
But it is on the defense to win it for us every week because the offense will always be at a schematic disadvantage with this oc.
Pats offense was 1 for 10 on 3rd down today.

Emblematic of the toxic Boston media in general. Professional trolls to rile people up for ratings. I remember a guy had a Boston media watch site 15 yrs ago just to make fun of all the crappy toxic media.

Can we start draft talk now...
Speaking of draft. We have to knock it out of the park this offseason. With the amount of FA’s we have and little cap space. Need to get some more budget signings that pay off, and big returns in the draft. Not to mention the possible exodus of veteran leadership coming up. Sure hope these young guys in the locker room have been paying attention.

I read that Wynns option has been picked up, is this true?
I’d love wynn back as a left guard. He’s played well enough for the most part but his consistency has always been a issue imo.

Not to be ungrateful because he has had some excellent games throughout his first 4 years. However there have been some flops and this game was one of them.

We have plenty of cap space. Also, we're missing draft picks, we have 5.

I don’t want to hear anymore talk about the “vaunted” secondary. Also, thanks for everything Hightower but it’s time to hang up the cleats.
Dude did you watch our front seven out there? Absolutely zero pressure. No secondary is going to hold up against a top QB when he has five or six seconds to stand in the pocket most of the game.

So when are we gonna see what Nixon can do?

Sorry, the draft picks are what I was referring to when I said knock it outta the park. We have a little over 28M in projected cap space with 20 pending free agents. Some are RFA, but those FA’s include DMac, HT, Big Trent Brown, JC Jackson, Adrian Phillips, Slater, and Nick Folk. 7 starters. You can franchise JC, that’s gonna leave you about 10-15M in cap space. Would love to keep Trent Brown, Phillips and Folk. Wouldn’t mind DMac on a team friendly deal, with the intent of trying to reduce his playing time. I know the team could move some things around to free up more space, but those are some serious names to re-sign or have to replace.

Just leave and root for some other team. What a terrible post. I get you are upset but come on. Such crap from “fans”. And I’m not perfect
What do you expect fanboy? Superbowl, playoffs? The writing is on the wall for me and it's just my opinion. Need more talent.

Hightower's money will come off, but I'm seeing $31.5m in cap space even without High's money.

When all is said and done, I think we'll be $40m under

I don't see Mac ever being a top ten QB. Hope I am wrong.
Allen had 10 td passes and 12 INTs as a rookie. Threw for 52.8 completion percentage and a 67.9 QBR. There’s no law saying QBs can’t improve. If he’s at the same level after 3 seasons, then yeah I agree. I think he will be top 10, but he definitely needs better weapons around him. The running game is excellent. The receiving options are average at best. And they can even improve the Oline. Look at the improvement in Allen’s weapons, it’s not a coincidence that he became a top QB once he got Diggs and Beasley.

Allen's issue though was that he had to learn to play QB at the NFL level. He has/had all the talent in the world. It just had to be harnessed and the Bills did a great job developing him. Mac is short on talent IMO, especially his arm and that is a big issue as he does not have Allen's athleticism to fall back on. I really hope he can get stronger this off-season and also develop his pocket presence. He does need better weapons but it isn't happening. Bill spent a ton this year on offensive skill guys in FA. He is stuck with them through next year.

They are already trashing Mac Jones on the Bucs sub-forum...
