Official Pats v. Seahawks postgame thread

These sorts of comments are what make Pats fans the laughing stock of the league. It goes to show how inept we are and how we couldn't judge talent if we had it laid out in front of us.

Both McCourty and Wilson and Gregory could start on other teams. Chung might even be able to start on another team as well. A team like the Redskins. The issue isn't that the secondary is crap. The issue is that the entire defense isn't working in sync yet. Players aren't doing their jobs. And we have guys new to the team who are learning what their job entails. Which also entails learning the jobs of the other players in the secondary. Something that way too many of you seem to have forgotten.

You might be right provided the coaches on their new teams can fix what has been broken here

I hate reading the forums after a loss (especially one like there where we blew multiple opportunities). Winning cures alot of ails and helps cover up the warts.

The reality, is there's only a handful of plays that separate the 2.

yeah and losing shows what kind of ham and eggers bill belichick drafted

That is true, we could have won that game. But the frustration is not about that particular game. The frustration is that our secondary is total garbage and will likely remain that way. The offense cannot get a first down when the game is on the line. That is a terrible combo which seems to keep costing us games.

Just awful situational football today. BB needs to get in these guys butts this week.

It wasn't the players that decided not to take the sure easy 3 points at
the end of the 2nd quarter. BB needs to get in his own butt and his OC's butt.

Re: Say all you want, AGAIN our offense was to blame

We scored more points and gained more yards (by like 200) than anyone else has against them. Green Bay put up 12 points on them at home. There were some missed opportunities, but the defense played poorly and that was why we lost.

I thought they want to stick it hi face Seriously though, I agree. We blew it in key scoring situations.

And.....Brady is no longer the Ice water in Veins Clutch QB he was in 01-04........that guy aint here anymore.....
Disagree. Brady never did "win" those games in '01 and '03 and '04. The team did. They won as a team. They had a winning character that thrived on pressure.

Lets see. Brady sucked. Offense sucked and the secondary for the third or fourth year in a row continues to be an epic joke. Once again I knew (which is no secret) that the second they punted they were screwed. This defense can play well 99% of the time but on game winning drives they cannot stop a pop Warner team from getting the score the need.

Here is how they lose 95% of the time:

Pats are either up by two points or six points with the ball.

There is around 3-4 minutes left in the game.

Pats can end the game with a first down or a couple of first down. They fail.

Ball is punted. It could land on the 1 yard line, it could land on the 50 yard line. It does not matter.

Secondary gives up a couple of huge passing plays.

(Insert opposing team name here) gets close enough to kick a game winning FG.

or

(Insert opposing team name here) gets in the end zone with a pass.

Re: Say all you want, AGAIN our offense was to blame

Number 1 offense vs Number 1 defense....guys, chill, we lost a close game against a great defensive team AT HOME by 1 point.

Holy.

We have a quality football team...and a competitive team, Number 1 offense.

Back to work tomorrow vs the jets, big game at home.

We will be back...let's make the corrections that need to be made and move on.

They'll show up vs the Jets.

It's one thing to get beaten by a better team, it's another to give a game away because of your own incompetence, which is what the Pats did today.

One of these days the Pats are going to play 4 quarters of good football all in the same game.

Fear that day other NFL teams

I hate this attitude. It's so nauseatingly optimistic, with no reason to believe it other than hope. After the Pats lost to the Cardinals people on here were saying, "Well the Patriots have a loss like this every season, they'll be fine." But is this really true? Last year's team had one fluke loss (Bills), one loss where they got flatly outplayed (Steelers), and a pair of losses where they wrote themselves into a hole (Giants). This team has one close loss to a good team (Ravens), and two stupid losses... a certain stupidity that has also characterized the wins (even the Bills blowout).

The offense last year was competent and patient; this year, despite having a greater array of weapons and the super new genius HYPER OFFENSE, you expect the offense to shatter a china vase. Whether that's McDouche, Brady seeing the twilight, or somewhere in between, the point remains. The defense? My god Belichick deserves all the heat he gets for this atrocity. I think it comes down to scheme. It's like once the league went pass-happy, BB decided that you should just concede the pass and only beef up the front-seven. Meanwhile unemployed computer science majors can play safety. This thought process has defined the ****ty Patriots defense the past three-four year; will Belichick eventually admit it's not working? Still though, even last year this secondary didn't LOSE games the way this secondary has arguably blown games this year... You could argue it's flatly worse this year.

Don't forget, BB himself is the one who scathingly asks players who say they're better than what the standings say: "Based on what?" Fact of the matter is, this team just doesn't look very good so far. As BB also says of the 2009 team: The more critical the situations are, the less likely they are to execute. I think that's very true of this 2012 squad. We can act like things are suddenly gonna get better in November, or being a 3 seed is fine (even though the Patriots have never done jack without a playoff bye). And who knows? They could get their **** together through November. But we certainly have no reason to think so, unless we want to be arrogant Patriot fans. Which is stupid. Based on how they're playing right now, I think 10-6 or 11-5, with contention for the division and an early exit in the postseason, should be the extent of our optimism. Sorry.

so many excuses.. we let tickle me pete carroll who lost games like this and A BELOW AVG QB IN RUSSEL WILSON . beat us ... i say that is on bill belichcik... he needs to start being held accountable .. because brady cant win these games anymore

Re: Say all you want, AGAIN our offense was to blame

14 Points in 1 quarter
Rookie QB had 16/27 for 293 Yards for 3 TDs
85 Yards Rushing for 378 Total Yards

From the Seattle offense which is 30th in Points per game (17.2), 7th in Rushing, and DEAD LAST in passing O.

Dead. Last.

Tell me again how we blame the O for putting up decent points on the #1 D in the NFL?

No he cannot. Agreed.

The game had nothing to do with the officials. Just stop, really.
Shows how much you don't know. Wilfork being taken down on 2 of the deep ball throws that should have been called penalties. Branch being hit by Browner before the ball got to him to on the last drive. Edwards pulling on Dennard's Jersey but Dennard being called for the PI. Then there was the Illegal Motion call that was bogus. Saying that they had nothing to do with the game is a clear sign of denial.

know it's blasphemy to talk ill of Belichick in New England, and rightfully so, but the play calling was horrible.

We let 24 seconds go to total waste at the end of the 1st half after our DEFENSE came up big for us and gave us a chance to really open the game up. We didn't even get a field goal out of it. That is COACHING and bad decision making.
It's as much Brady as it is the coaching.

In the second half, on both drives that ended in an interception, we were marching on the Hawks defense. Marching, marching, marching, wearing them down and cutting through them like butter with short gains. Instead of sticking with it we decide to go for knock out blows that become turn overs.

Clearly you watched something different because the 2nd interception was the result of them trying to go for the short gain for the TD. It was 3rd and 1 from the 6. 6 yards isn't a long pass by any stretch of the imagination.

That game should of been 37-10 in the 4th against the best defense in the league. It should of sent a huge message to the rest of the league that the Patriots will not be stopped.

Instead we leave Seattle with a big fat loss.

The Pats offense left 22 points on the field. The defense gave up 4 receptions of 40+ yards, partially because they were missing guys like Hightower and Gregory and then had Chung go down as well. They also switched something up on the pass rush that hurt them, imho. They put Cunningham back on the field for regular snaps instead of just in Nickel Formations. This wasn't effective to start the game and it wasn't effective at the end.

Ummm . . . 140 yards came on three pass plays. The other 24 attempts got about 150 yards, and had about a 50% completion rate.

Yes, the D let the O down, but 1/6 in the red zone isn't gonna cut it in the NFL.

The big problem is that the secondary needs to find a way to not give up the long bombs.

probaably the most embarrasing loss in the belichick era.. was today... not excluding his playoff faillures...

Re: Say all you want, AGAIN our offense was to blame

Offense and defense deserves blame. As many mistakes as our O made, Seattle never started in our territory IIRC. Giving up 24 points to Seattle's offense is a poor performance no matter how you slice it. Both sides were bad today, you can argue all day over who's more at fault but while the defense did make some plays and stops, it still wasn't really up to par with the defenses that can actually win games.

Re: Say all you want, AGAIN our offense was to blame

offense was to blame, i agree. Redzone O. Passing 60 dam times. 100 yards of wilsons came on 3 plays i believe

just like the balt game...O can't sustain a drive...sucks

You know how many points the O left out there today? :bricks:
