PATRIOTS NEWS OFFICIAL: Patriots Finally Acquire AJ Brown

Breaking New England Patriots Team News
He was ALWAYS remarkable for being an idiot.
After the Eagles beat the Texans a few years back giving the Pats HFA Trollin reported that the Pats locker room was yelling "Foles did it again!". Riiiight. Like any Patriot would say that after SB52. He's a clown

Trying to make sense of it all.

OK, a couple of points to counter al all the negativity I've heard over the last couple of days on 2 points. First the issue of Brown's "degenerative knee condition" and second, the compensation we gave the Eagles, including the "were bidding against ourselves" crowd.

1 I too was as concerned as the next guy worrying about Brown's SUPPOSED chronic knee condition. I feel a LOT better after I took about 2 minutes to do a little research to debunk that entire hot take, First I found out that across his entire 8 previous seasons in the NFL, Brown has missed 12 games and only 4 during his time in Philly. That kind of availability doesn't happen to guys with chronic knee injuries.

I think the story evolved from speculation after it was reported he took shots to his knee in their run up to the Superbowl. Now that was TWO seasons ago now and no further shots to the knee reports have been reported since. Brown played all 17 games last season and hasn't missed a playoff game in his entire career.

The other place this gross speculation took root was from the hot take that his "chronic knee problem" was the reason the Rams dropped out of a run at trading for Brown. It has since been reported that they real reason they dropped out was they couldn't get a trade for Adams done.

Now in both cases the degenerative knee story made some logic, so you can see how it made SOME sense and was credible speculation, BUT if you took but a couple of minutes to try and look for any FACTS to support that speculation, you would be hard pressed to find ANY. More likely you will find more reasons to debunk it. Also note, I'm not saying it's not the issue some are making it just because Brown said so in a presser. Players are well known liars when it comes to injury reports. But in this case, the FACTS back him up.

2. As far as "Howie made a fool out of Wolfe" crowd is concerned, I feel they are MOSTLY dead wrong. In no way did Roseman get full first round value for Brown. To do that he would have had to get a 2026 pick and THAT would have been #31. He didn't even get a 2027 pick. He has to wait until 2028 to collect the vast bulk of his compensation.

And what exactly will that compensation be. Most likely in 2028 it will be a pick in the mid 20"s (we hope) or later, which is a place where you HOPE you will find an eventual long-term starter within 3 seasons. History tells us, IIRC, that you will have about a 60% chance of meeting that goal. We've all seen the list of success and failures here, so there's no need to repeat them. NOT having one will hurt, but we've had enough seasons without a first to see that your team isn't going to collapse not having one once in a great while. This ISN'T going send our whole rebuild into catastrophe, as if it had been in 26 or 27. I read something his week that pointed out the Rams have something like 10 starters who were drafted between the 2nd and 6th rounds and most weren't in the 2nd.

Now losing that 5th next year, DOES piss me off a bit, but that's a nitpick more than a sign of a bad deal. Bottom Line: a first rounder that is TWO years in the future does NOT have the same value as a first rounder in the same year as it would have been 2 full seasons later. Let us not forget what we got in return. We got the TRUE #1 WR the "cult" has been screaming for the better part of 2 decades. We got the perfect guy for our young and unfinished superstar potential QB. A guy who will help Maye more than Maye will help him and changes the makeup of our WR room a LOT more than what Diggs did, and Diggs did a remarkable job.

I expect this will give us 3 quality years of WR play. (This comes from a chart that was posted that showed how WR's generally age.) According to it WR's generally peak at 29, but the decline the next 2 seasons is very gradual, before it drops off more steeply after 32.
That should give a solid 3-year window before Brown's play recedes into the current Davonte Adams level of play. (which is more physical than explosive) and wind down his career as more of a contributor than focus

Thought it was Pontiff.
It is, Pontifex Maximus. However, "staying in your lane" would be akin to staying in your pew.

I know Ron Borges. I have watched Ron Borges on TV. I have read Ron Borges in the newspaper. I have listened to Ron Borges on the radio. And you sir (Ben Volin), are no Ron Borges.

I just wonder sometimes what we did to deserve such great coverage in Boston. Since I was a young kid every day I read the newspaper with anticipation of a great story, a box score and a accurate stats page. Didn’t matter which sport. Now I open a story and I cringe what direction it will go. Sensationalist reporting has taken over and it’s not going anywhere. This board is great when you are able to filter out the drama for getting great info and links.

What a turd.

He is right up there with the likes of Tomase, Felger and Borges. Miserable human beings trying to spread despair and depressing thoughts every time they speak or touch a keyboard. Pure trash and they aren’t putting a rain cloud over this trade. I feel spectacular about it.

“No injury. Nothing to worry about,” Brown said. “I think this whole little – you have to understand where I came from, so any conversation about anything is going to come up. Maybe in four years, I’ve missed one game from a shot to the knee, so I’m good, I’m ready to go.”

On the same topic, on my way home this evening, I caught a little F and M and they were talking on the same topic. Gasper (I think) was talking about speaking with one personnel guy for another team, who was talking about Brown's knees and brought up proof that he's "slowing down". He mentioned some system that measures a player's speed running routes, and that Brown used to run 18-19mph about 50% of the time. Over the past year he was doing only 30% of the time.

But if he still is running as fast as ever 30% of the time, he STILL can run fast. Isn't that the real issue. Clearly he can still run fast. Now you can ask why. Was it because the routes he was asked to run didn't require it? Or was it because he knew he wasn't going to be thrown to and took the plays off, the bottom line is that on some plays he ran as fast as he did earlier in his career, so he CAN run as fast. Last season for some reason he didn't run as fast as often. Could be because of knee issues IF you want to look at it that way,

At any rate, I choose to interpret the data as being that it showed that he can be as fast as he has been and for whatever reason, last season he didn't reach those speeds as often. Gasper also mentioned that when he went deep, he used more double moves to create separation rather than a burst of speed. But isn't that what Puca does because it certainly isn't raw speed. They are NOT being judged on style points just completions. Last season the Eagles offense often simply disappeared at times and Brown's stats suffered just like everyone else's.

I'm not being a Pollyanna here Mayo, I get the concern, but these stories and mediots are simply dumping on this trade strictly for the Drama (especially that Volin line) and to make it seem like anyone who doesn't see it like they do are just fanboys and aren't as smart as they are. Compared to what Denver paid for Waddle this was a robbery. (a 26 FIRST and THIRD and a swap of 4's also in 26 favoring Denver) And if I wanted to play THEIR game, I could write a headline crying Waddle has missed "almost TWICE as many games as AJ" And while true, the reality is that Waddle's availability has been pretty good since he's only missed 7 games over the last 4 years

In the end what condition his knees are doesn't really matter. All that matters is that he is an effective #1 receiver.

Stay in your lane, your holiness. Or your pew. Chapel. Congregation. Whatever.
I’m not sure but he needs to do 6 Our Fathers and 4 Hail May’s

Just an immensely ******ed take.
I was completely wrong on McD.
I openly stated I did not want to hire him back, and that his career was a result of Brady.
After the year I started a "repent' thread.
McD was number 1 on my list.
I was completely wrong and admitted as much.
He is a great OC, one of the very best in the league.
