Laurence Maroney it is

Whoa! Maroney!

L. Maroney?

An early favorite on many boards.

Hmmm... interesting pick. I would've thought they'd go LB for sure.

Was Maroney on anybody's radar for the Pats? It's definitely an interesting pick, and the brief online ESPN description of him makes him sound very intriguing, but still that choice is a big surprise. Could we have traded down and still gotten him? Any idea?

And of course Lawson goes to the 49ers.

something for borges to write about tommorow

I prefer Williams but Maroney is a proven productive player at a very big need on this team.

Very good slection.

I like the pick since it's obviously for depth and future. Seems that BB/SP are more comfortable with our LB, WR, and OL which is a very good sign.

I'm still hoping we land Marshall early in the second round via trading up.

Wasn't he supposed to be E. James replacement in Indy. Seems like if he's touted that highly then he'd be a good fit here.

This seems to me as if it as a pick designed to make an immediate impact for next year. RBs can certainly do that, as well as any players in a draft. As impressive as Lawson is, I suspect that any LB coming into the NE system is going to have a steep learning curve, and any rookie, even a smart kid with obvious gifts, will be at least a year or three off from having that impact. I had thought the Pats would trade down, but they must have felt strongly that Moroney would be gone by then. I don't know much about him, and will be curious.

I also agree that it might indicate a possible trade for a WR in the works.

I think BB did this just to tick off all the media types. With BB's draft record I can't complain. The offense should be interesting though if we can get a stud WR.

WR's and USC players are having a dreadful day so far.

Can't say I like this pick much. Maroney hasn't shown the ability to run between the tackles and pound the ball. I'm willing to give the braintrust the benefit of the doubt on this one, since this is the first 1st round pick they've made that I didn't care for on draft day. Looks like a DB or LB in round two. I think the Pats really wanted Greenway or Wimbley, and when they weren't there, they went for the BPA and a spot that could use a player to groom.

Can you guys switch over to the picks 25-on thread? My time limit ran out to edit my tracker post. Should be good to keep discussion relevant too.

I hoped that we could wait a year for a running back. But if bb says we need a running back, then we need a running back! From all indications, Maroney is a great pick.

Maroney will help Dillon and the running game a lot. He can be the short down back in 2006. Eventually Dillon and Maroney will switch roles. Pass is a backup for Faulk as the 3rd down back. This was a fine addition.

OUR RUNNING GAME IS NOW SOLIDIFIED!

We can get center insurance on Day Two.

BTW, we are fine for #52. There are a lot players that we want. More than the number of picks between now and then. We might want to move up from the 3rd into a great second round.
