Absolutely NO.
Watched Scotty for 3 years while Tommy Boy was in Tamper. Even with the GOAT throwing to him he was good for just a handful of go route bombs per season. Not a route runner.
I did wonder why Miller wasn't better. Especially when they initially touted him as Edelman Light..

I dont see Peppers as a FS... I dont know what he played in college but he seems like a SS/LB hybrid type all day which plays to his strengths. I would think moving a CB to FS would be easiest move - Mills being most likely option.

Neither do I. Peppers is a SS/OLB all day long.

What do we have in Shawn Wade would like to see him develop.

So would I. Facing the QB and making good tackles were what he did best at Ohio State; and that's exactly what Free Safeties do in the NFL.

I think the free safety responsibilities will vary from play to play. They aren't going to consistently line up with one deep safety like they did with McCourty. I'd expect Jon Jones, Mills, Dugger, Peppers, Bledsoe and Phillips all to spend time in the deep safety role, but there will be way more two high and cover 3 coverages than in the past.

I think McCourty himself in an interview said that his retirement gives the Patriots a chance to be more unpredictable in their backend coverages. He said that teams knew where he was going to be 99% of the time, but now any of the safeties could be deep, or could be low, or could start at one then rotate to the other. Now, will that unpredictability be enough to make up for his generally superior deep range (and his ability to communicate the playcalls to everyone in real time), we'll see. But I doubt they're looking for anyone to really replace McCourty's role. They'll tweak the defense to take advantage of the players they have.

I don't know what the Jets are doing. WR was far from a need for them. They are just appeasing Rodgers now. They better hope they get pre-2022 Rodgers and not 2022 Rodgers.

Agree on Peppers, still think I would like Dugger or mayber Jonathan Jones if he can be spared at corner.

It's not, but if Wilson or Davis goes down, they're suddenly thin. They're probably thinking of something like Evans/Godwin/AB like the Bucs had in 2020 and parts of 2021 (Godwin IR'd, AB went nuts).

Would you prefer Davis at $12 million or OBJ at $15 million? Because Davis is getting 12 this year and almost all of it is salary.

I think that could be a lot of fun. It's kind of interesting that our two fastest DBs with the most range are Johnathan Jones Marcus Jones. I wonder if they will sometimes line up those Jones on the outside then have them drop into a two high safety look with Dugger, Phillips, and Mills filling the flats and underneath.

If Davis is all salary does that mean the Jets might cut him instead? I assume it would cost a lot less than 12 to sign him as a free agent.

I don't know, but I'd be shocked if they gave Beckham $15M. Maybe. $8-10M + incentives

Heard I appreciate this insight. As a person not too familiar with all the variations of how a FS can play, what are looks that we could see that we didn't see while McCourty was here?

Hopkins can back it up, he's been elite his entire career. 2 yeas ago he tore his MCL, then last season started it with a 6 game suspension and that series of events has basically earned him an "injury prone" label

If you can get 2-3 good years out of him he would be worth a 2nd rounder. He's 31, so he's older but he's not that old

If hes available for a 4th it would be criminal not to trade 1 of our 3 picks for him.. but id imagine it will take at least a 3rd
Spot on!!! Hop has been one of my favorites since he came in league.. superb route runner, out muscles DBs for the ball on contested balls.. can run every route make every kind of catch... he's 6'1 but plays as if he's 6"5.. he's still elite and still has his speed.. I hope we do end up getting him.. even for 2 yrs would make this offense potent.. mix hop in with all the other pieces we have.. I'd say we are back to being a top 10 offense..

What do we have in Shawn Wade would like to see him develop.
Why is he still on this roster?.. I'd rather have Terrance Mitchell over him.. another head scratching trade that has netted us absolutely nothing from him..

We're talking about a 7th rounder
