Isn't Mankins the highest paid OG?
Oh yeah, he's highly overpaid.

So the GOAT QB is getting beaten to a pulp yet BB doesn't want to invest in the O-line
Bill Belichick doesn't want to invest in the offensive line?
Two first round draft picks and a second round draft pick is not enough?
The problem is, Bill hasn't drafted any OLmen since Cannon in 2011, and if Cannon is considered
as an OT (his current position), then he hasn't drafted an Interior OLman of any consequence since Mankins - 8 years ago.
Ass-uming SeaBass returns to full health, drafting a C/G with a top-100 pick is an absolute,
indisputable must.
Don't let the facts get in the way of the haters rant. I don't know why people expect even the good NFL players to win every battle EVERY time. When I watched the All-22 tape I thought that Mankins was by far our best inside blocker and that he made some really crucial blocks to open up holes for the runners.
Well its one thing to defend Mankins from the overcritical fandom, However its another thing to pay him like he's a top 5 OG if he no longer is playing to THAT level.I don't see what's so surprising about this.
Mankins is what he is. Great in the run game, and makes too many damn mistakes in pass pro.
Obviously the penalties are well documented. But whenever there's a missed assignment, its usually Mankins who's the one standing there with no one to block. Of course, he usually goes and pretends to help someone when he realizes he messed up, but the damage is done.
Good player? Sure. Overpaid? Definitely. A top 3 offensive guard (which is what he's paid to be) should not be making so many dumb mistakes.
Given the number of other players who aren't executing at a high level right now, I would hardly 'single him out'. As a matter of fact, if this team is to be successful, Ridley and the run game need to be featured, and that means getting Mankins involved doing what he does best. Getting out in space and finishing blocks and paving the way.
But in hindsight, its too bad that we're paying something like 8 million a year for a rich man's Willie Colon.
This is where the problem lies. You say BB does not want to "invest" in the O Line. Others say, there are two first rounders and a second round guy there. They also point out that one is among the highest paid guards and another just got an extension.
Then you say that even if that is so, they have played poorly which is why you are right that BB doesn't want to invest in the O Line.
Huh????
Investing is the act of committing capital or resources to an asset usually with the hope of getting a return on it. This is what BB has done based on the draft picks and contract extensions. You are wrong then to say that BB is not investing in the O Line.
What you are actually saying is that based on your opinion, BB is not investing WISELY because those picks and extensions have not been playing to the standards that befit those investments.
My apologies to those who find this statement to be an obvious one. It just seems like the poster I quoted doesn't get this.
Not to mention Mankins timely holding calls that negates Big plays and TD's. I am sure BB is going to evaluate his play over the offseason to see if he's worth what he's getting. It wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't improve, Mankins will be cap casualty next year.
The only people who don't think Mankins is a great OG are Patriot fans, his peers and this coaching staff see it very differently. Par for the course.
Mankins isn't going to take a pay cut and weakening Brady's interior OL is a really really bad idea. I don't believe the Patriots will, even attempt to reduce his deal, if they evaluate him as not worth it they will simply release him. I honestly don't believe fans can accurately evaluate the play of interior lineman because they have no idea what their actual responsibilities are. Tackles are somewhat different because the match-ups are more straightforward.
Brady has gotten hit way too much this year, what do you see as the cause?
