Patriots improve to 4-1, Browns drop to 0-5
After forcing a three-and-out, Tom Brady and the offense rolled right down the field for the opening score on an 8-play, 80-yard drive. The big play was a short pass in the middle to Gronk that went for 34 yards; LeGarrette Blount finished it off with a one-yard run.
The Browns answered with a 9-play drive for a touchdown of their own. The Pats responded in kind with an 8-play 75-yard scoring drive. James White took a short pass for a 36-yard gain, and Martellus Bennett took a pass seven yards into the end zone to amke it a 14-7 game.
Two plays later Dont'a Hightower blasted Cody Kessler, forcing the ball backward and out of the Browns' own endzone for a safety. After the free kick the Pats marched 64 yards in eight plays for their third straight touchdown. Chris Hogan, who had three catches in the drive, made the key play on a 43-yard reception on a deep pass to the left. Bennett again completed the drive, this time with a five-yard reception - and less than three minutes into the second quarter the Patriots were leading comfortably, 23-7.
Cleveland entered the game ranked first in the NFL in rushing with an average of 149.3 yards per game; the Patriots held the Browns to 27 yards rushing. The 1.2 yards per carry was the fourth lowest total by the Pats defense in team history, and the 27 yards was 11th best.
The game marked Tom Brady's 17th season, making him the longest tenured player in franchise history, surpassing Steve Grogan's 16 seasons. Brady's 17 seasons with one team tied him for the most by an NFL quarterback with John Brodie (49ers) and Dan Marino (Dolphins).
The 406 yards passing was Brady's eighth 400-yard game. That tied him with Phillip Rivers, Ben Roethlisberger and Carson Plamer for fourth most in NFL history in that category.
Rob Gronkowski finished with his 21st career 100-yard game after catching five passes for 109 yards. That tied him with Antonio Gates as fourth most ever by an NFL tight end.
For Bill Belichick this was his 227th career regular-season win. That moved him into fourth place all-time, one win ahead of Curly Lambeau. It was also Belichick's 250th win overall.
In addition Martellus Bennett had his first (and only) three-touchdown game, and third multi-TD game. Chris Hogan had his first 100-yard game, and at the time the 63-yard reception was the longest of his career. Malcom Brown had the first two-sack game of his career, DL Woodrow Hamilton made his NFL debut, LB Barkevious Mingo made his first start as a member of the Patriots, and Cameron Fleming was in the starting lineup for the fourth time. Fleming was at RT in place of Marcus Cannon, and had previously started one game at LT in place of Nate Solder, plus two games as a tackle-eligible tight end.

Chris Hogan is the deep threat
Let's be clear: Chris Hogan isn't just another slot receiver -- the guy is fast.
Hogan showed off his downfield capabilities early in Sunday's game as he became the recipient of Brady's first downfield bomb of the year, completing the play with a nifty catch.
He then followed that up with a second bomb on the ensuing drive, this time going straight down the sideline.
