Ochocinco: Gaining confidence

he has gotten better but you can clearly see the diff between him and the rest of the pats receivers and TE's. Ocho runs a route and stops or expects the ball to be there. He hardly ever is hit in stride as much or changes his route depending on the coverage. Hopefully that will get better.

Hardly ever is hit in stride????????

Most of his catches have been on intermediate slants in stride. Just off the top of my head, I can clearly remember 2 in the Chargers game.

that 53yarder was great. The Jets threatened us to go deep and we burned them. it totally changed the way the Jets had to play defense the rest of the game..because they had to back off the middle

I saw Rapoport had this same analysis and I'm skeptical. Ocho was only in on 16 snaps out of 69 offensive plays, only two of them in the second half — when the offense got going. I agree those catches and gains were nice to see, but I'm not so sure they had much impact on the rest of the game. I think we'll see some of that in coming weeks, just not there yet, IMO.

it was Benny who comitted the too many men penalty not Ocho...they made a mistake and it was mentioned somewhere else.

he did give us 65yards against the Jets....and getting something going deep/on the sidelines is something that we have needed in the passing game.

That play was more of a miscommunication between Jets defenders then anything special that Ocho did. I don't think that changed anything the Jets did from that point on.

The one thing they should of changed is how they covered Gronk, it was so sweet to read the JI message board and have them call the TD to Gronk before it happened. LOL

Great minds think alike :rocker:

#85 just looks quicker to me over the last 2 games. Could it be that his early struggles had as much to do with poor conditioning(coming out the lockout) than his ability to grasp the offense? Just a thought. It will be interesting to see if the progress continues.

I doubt he gets much out of shape. That would be pretty consistent with someone who ran more instinctively having to think about every step he makes. He was obviously struggling with that process.

It is so good to know he's gaining confidence. Would be nice to have new wrinkle in the offense as they barrel toward playoff time.

Also, he clearly works very hard.

You can never have too many weapons on offence and 85 looked like he had swagger out there again against the Jets.
He torched both Revis and Cromatie on those 2 catches and hopefully he can put up some decent numbers down the stretch against the "weaker" teams and help him gain confidence and we'll see the old 85 in the playoffs.

The broadcast crew said that the too many men mistake was on Chad and it was an easy one - had he not run directly into the huddle (and I assume either given Benny an opportunity to see there was a substitution and back out or tapped him out) there would not have been a call.

The one thing Chad has yet to exhibit on the field is any semblance of swagger. I assume that is because he really lacks confidence in his own ability to both make a play and do it the way Brady and the coaches need him to.

I'm not sure we want to see the old 85 on this team. We just want a guy who can fit in and make some plays and gain his teamates trust so they can really, fully utilize him under fire.

Mo quietly throws 8 5 under the bus

a very subtle JAB

I have always had faith in Chad Johnson, and will do so all season. I promise you he will be huge for us in the play offs, mark my words. Not going to brag that i started a thread before the Jets game saying he would have his best game so far,,but i think from now onwards his production and sync with Tommy is just going to get better and better. Chad Johnson is back.

Good lord, when is this Ocho Stinko stuff going to stop. He is not a Patriot. He is nothing but a roacher that was a team cancer on the Bengals for years. His skills have diminished and if this was any other guy who didn't have this huge name that he does, he would have been released already like he should have been. He was an awful pick up for the off season and there were much better options. Drop him now and stop wasting the time. Branch has played pretty damn well.

Ocho just needs to be prepared when his opportunity does come.

I just noticed Chads twitter picture in the OP...

That made me laugh..

The whole team looked quicker on the weekend compared to being slow and sluggish for a few weeks before that. It makes me wonder what stage of training the Strength & Conditioning staff had the team in.

Thank you for these pearls of wisdom. Still pissed off the Patriots beat your Jets on the weekend?

I know he's trying, but he's got a long road in front of him. I can't fault the effort.

Slow learning in Philly:

"New player notes Tue, Nov 15

QB Vince Young replaced Michael Vick for a play Sunday after Vick took a helmet in the ribs and had to leave the game. But that doesn't necessarily mean he would get the start over Mike Kafka if Vick can't play this week because of his two broken ribs. Young had to be told by RB LeSean McCoy on the one play he came in for that it was a shotgun snap rather than one under center.
