Feels like a large number of them are just him trying to move up in the pocket or scrambles going OB short of the LOS. Not like he’s dropping back and getting sacked. That’s what so many of them are 1-2 yard losses and that’s it.

Feels like all of it is correctable but we’ll see.

Saw a post from one of the pundits that stated that over 50% of Maye's sacks were on him and not the O-line.

On a side note, I think it's absolutely ridiculous that the Defense is given a SACK if the QB loses ZERO yards.

Should we merge w last week's sacks thread? I don't care either way, it just seems that there's lots discussed from all angles there.

I think one thing we noticed in that thread was on display yesterday. The sky-high accuracy figure is affected by the "go ahead and throw out of bounds" solution. 1 sack yesterday (for 1 yard), vs. 6 per game for the previous two weeks. Lots of balls thrown out of bounds. 16/31. He also had balls sail on him, as CBS gloried in informing us, but that's barely over .500 completion percentage.

The difference is Maye playing in a way that will keep him alive rather than liking the scramble a little too much for risk wimps like me. That was a world class D he was playing against; I don't think he'll be barely over .500 as he internalizes a little sack avoidance, but it was clearly an area of focus

The good thing is, imo hes not taking the kind of sacks that ‘break’ you. They’re relatively non violent and are mostly due to him just extending plays trying to see if something opens up vs being a sitting duck.

On the downside though, the more hits you take the higher the odds are you get some kind of injury even if its lighter hits. Hes gotta be careful about that, hopefully he takes some courses in pliability too like Tom did.

The thing is you have to kind of let him figure it out himself with experience to know when the play is over and not take as many sacks.

You don't want to overcoach him given the upside with the big plays, you just hope the more games he plays the less sacks and big hits he will take while maintain a serious downfield passing threat, becoming an overly conservative QB isn't going to ever be his game.
