In all the hot taking nonsense around McD decision it was nice to come across one normal talk on the subject - and not surprisingly from a person who's actually been there, done that.

Mangini doesn't see much sense in speculating what this means for BB future or McD for that matter (it could still be anywhere or almost ;)) . instead he looks at what this actually means now: “its about winning the offseason; keeping the biggest free agent they had signals they are doing it again - and all the talk about lacking unity; to me this is a unifying event..“

Recommend the whole vid to those who missed it and like some normality.
    Spoiler: no hot takes

    ____

What looked like a complete rebuild mode just a few days/weeks ago (w Patriots having to replace not only both coordinators but possibly some other key long-time coaches in Flores, Judge, Dante, Frears, many even included BB) now looks like it could be just promoting one of the hottest coaches in the league to DC (Flores) and finding/promoting a LB coach.

I understand the Patriots showing stability amidst the end of the dynasty party is frustrating and hard to accept . but it is what it is I guess..

I am sure there are some clueless bozos out there who would have preferred McDaniels out but him staying last minute because of a common commitment by BB and the Krafts was the ultimate silver lining of the last week.

We will definitely have continuity throughout the Brady endgame -- no matter how long it takes -- and BB can focus his mind even more on the defensive side of things. With Joe Judge staying even the ST won't need a big rework. Apart from somehow keeping MP as well this was the best case scenario and seemed impossible right after the SB ended.

As much as I am a Patricia fanboy, Josh staying is a BIG deal, and means that the offensive side of things will be much less of a worry than it would have been had he left. To be honest, McDaniels coaching the Colts was more of a worry to me, since they are an AFC team and he could be the one to actually bring them back to become a serious competitor again. Patricia to the Lions means he's in the NFC now and we aren't likely to have to face him often.

To my mind, when it was announced that Josh was saying in New England, I could hear the other 31 team stafffs giving out a collective "well damn,,,,,,," :)

Seeing the colta upset was worth a ton. It seems like I find happiness in their demise. The fact that there were assistants in place and all that’s a wash makes me grin with black glee seeing that the damage was deep. Kraft threw a grenade into the colta franchise.

Now all we need is some thermometers places in odd places inside the colta stadium

Yep. I really like MacDaniels staying as well. I thought he was going to take some coaches, and may have made a run at Flores, and I was certain he was going to go after Lewis and or Burkhead, both of whom I want back. I also thought Luck would flourish under him. Ruining the Colts offseason was an unexpected gift that is greatly appreciated.

I know, it’s a great thing he single handedly wrecked their season. Colts fans are screaming conspiracy theories about it being pre planned hit

Keeping Josh McDaniels is a massive deal. I know he gets slated an awful lot on here, but he’s a very good OC. Him and Brady’s relationship is key. I’m excited to see what the future holds for us.

And don't forget his role in helping to develop the next Jimmy G or Brady's ultimate successor.....
I have a feeling that if a QB or his agent gets a call at the combine that the Pats want to meet with him, there won't be too many who decline.. I can think of 137.5 million reasons.... The dumb ones will blab to media or post on Twitter while the smart ones will keep it close to the vest...

Going to be interesting to see who we could be looking at the QB position for this draft and next years draft. Personally for this years draft i think i'm one of the rare ones who has a really high grade on Lamar Jackson.

Question: is there any salary restrictions from the NFL for coaches and staff like there are on players? I don't mean business/economics/profit for the team, but league-sanctioned?

If the Pats have one of the smallest coaching staffs and one of the most profitable franchises, why not pay a lot of guys head coach money to stick around?

Regardless of what opinions are held about Kraft, he deserves some credit here. Giving Josh enough of a bump in pay to keep him here helped the team. Not every owner would have come out of his own profits to see the big picture.

I think Kraft is well aware of the instability that losing both Patricia and MacDaniel’s could cause. It could have led to a run on assistant coaches and some free agents, and not just this offseason bit over the course of the next few years. Whatever he spent to keep MacDaniels was well worth it to keep them stable and largely intact for the near future, and most likely the transition out of Belichick/Brady. If, as it appears, they are going to pass the torch to Caserio and MacDaniels then QB will be the only major need to address. And while I’m not underestimating how big or important filling that hole will be, I also don’t expect another Brady, and I believe they have the ability to find another prospect who can be a winner for them.

There should be compensatory picks awarded to teams that get their coaching staffs raided nearly every year, similar to teams that lose players to FA.

It seems like it's the usual suspects that lose, New England, Seattle, and whoever wins the SB get their staffs gutted by teams like the Colts who produce nothing in terms of coaching talent that any other teams want. Losing a good OC or DC likely has more effect on a team than a 2nd.

Interesting idea, I like it. It provides some sort of offset to all of the advantages given to the bad franchises.
