This was an incredible accomplishment by the Patriots secondary last night. A combination of good pressure by the Dline and some timely coverage by the secondary prodiced one of the most satisfying victories I can remember in years.

The "Nobody Wanted Them" secondary!

Ihedigbo UMass UDFA 2007
Moore SMU UDFA 2011
Adams SC State 7th Rd SF 2010
Molden E. Kentucky 3rd Rd HOU 2008
Arrington Hofstra UDFA 2008
Brown Notre Dame UDFA 2010
Ventrone Villanova UDFA 2010
Edelman Kent St 7th Rd NE 2009
McCourty Rutgers 1st Rd 2010 (injured)

I still don't want a couple of them.

I suspect that they are the still the "nobody wants them" secondary.

Maybe an AFC will come into the playoffs with a worse secondary. However, I doubt it.

Funny nickname Mark. We even have a song. Streets have no name.

Reminds me of the days that when the Pats would play the Colts vaunted offense with the likes of Earthwind Moreland and Hank Poteat, and yet always beat them back then.

It is all about our offense.....If we can get a 2 TD lead against most teams then we can rush the passer with Carter/Anderson and play more coverage with everyone else.....The pressure our defensive front has been getting can make ANYONE in the secondary look good...

Mike Reiss expands on the subject:

New England Patriots' fill-ins on defense answered challenge - espnBoston

Yes, the Patriots pretty much put a "no-name" defense on the field in their most important regular-season game, and the result was the up-and-down D turning in its best performance of the year, one that featured relentless pressure on overmatched Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez.

"We had a lot of guys roll in," said defensive lineman Vince Wilfork, one of the team's captains. "Whether from injury or playing guys in certain situations, Bill [Belichick] challenged us last week; he said there's going to be some moving parts, roles are going to be changing and you have to be ready to rock and roll. We all rallied around one another and we didn't back away from anything. We took his challenge and it showed."

You read my mind. Playing with a lead can make a big difference.

This thread almost sounds like BB got on his sled and flew to the "Island Of Misfit Toys" to find this secondary. Sergio Brown has square feet. Molden is covered in polka dots..... etc etc.

More like the "you've got to be Fu[king kidding me,they are starting in the NFL" Secondary

Or my own favorite...The Scrubendary

They had a decent game but let's not get ready to put Molden or Brown in the Hall Of Fame....it was a bewildered and confused Mark Sanchez and the pressure from Andre Carter that kept that secondary from being exposed yesterday.

Next week we face another scrub QB.....it might be awhile before this secondary gets a good QB to try and slow down.

Agreed. It's one game. We'll get exposed again.

That's not what i said. I think Adams and Moore show promise and if they follow instruction and we get lucky with injuries we could be all right.

We've got a pretty fair former secondary coach who can take players who follow orders and make a defense out of them

I'm extremely proud of the effort last night but still not sold on the whole group. Remember how excited we were about this defense after the Dallas game and then Ben carved them up/Eli's big 4th quarter. Last night reminded me of the 2004 game @ St Louis when our secondary was decimated and Troy Brown/Earthwind Moreland were relied upon at CB. The potential is there but we need the DL to get similar push to what they got (it's hard to expect the same incredible effort on any given week). Also I think Chung, McCourty, Arrington absolutely need to be healthy come playoff time for us to get by with that personnel.

Ihedigbo may be able to suffice at FS and I have faith in Phillip Adams as the #3 CB. The rest still very iffy on. But those 2 could turn out to be amazing finds by BB

Brown? I don't think there's a single person on this forum who thinks Brown will ever amount to anything at all.

Not that I'm going to absolve the defense given the many and varied issues they've had season long but playing with a lead doesn't cut it as an excuse. The defense played lights out for the majority of the game before the offense even got going.

Food for thought.

The Pats had a lead........Mark Sancheez......enough said.

But they really didn't. It took Brady and the offense too much time to get things going, and I was shatting myself the whole time praying for the defense to hold. Well, they more than help up and allowed the offense to take over the game with 1:23 to go in the 1st half. If the defense played to expectations (and had the idiot Sanchez not taken that ridiculous time out just before the half), the Pats could easily have been down at least 17-6 going into the 3rd quarter which would have made this a very different game.

Brown? Did he get many reps at all?
