Nick Kaczur place on IR...

The promotion of Ojinnaka from the PS was probably an indicator that Nick wasn't close. I guess this means we aren't planning to or expecting to execute a trade for an OL help (not that OL is the biggest need now).

Didn't realise Ojinnaka was on PS. Thought he was always in the 53.

You would be right. Ojinnaka was never on the practice squad. Ohrnberger was.

Yes, Ojinnaka was cut and later re-signed.

All reports are that Mankins will return for week 10. We just need Connelly to hold up for 5 more weeks. We're a little thin over the next 5 weeks, but Kaczur wouldn't have helped in that time anyway.

mankins wont play if he comes week 10. iam quite sure bb will just sit him...

I think that will be a game time decision.

If the o-line is playing well together and is healthy, he will most likely sit.

If his return coincides with someone getting injured, he will likely play.

Agreed.

Mankins is now insurance against Neal or Connolly being injured. The current backup interior linemen are Ojinnaka and Ohrnberger who have been on the edge of the 53 all year.

In its own way, this is good news:
-- 1. Connolly is not only filling in well, but he's growing into the job.
-- 2. Wendell and Orhnberger are proving to be viable reserves for interior OL.
-- 3. Ojinnaka, and possibly Maneri are proving to be viable reserves to backstop LeVoir.
-- 4. As Sam Hunt just noted, back injuries are tricky. I can attest that rest has done wonders for my chronic problem. With Mankins expected to return to ensure he's vested for the season, and the other reserves meeting the Scarnecchia steel toe to backside boot of approval, Nick can now focus on rest and conditioning with no timetable pressures.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Mankins getting some reps at OT if/when he comes back. He played there in college and if he's really gonna be a backup OL, then it wouldn't hurt to have another option there...

I understand he'll also be working on his long snapping.

This is the roster spot for Branch who just passed his physical and will practice today. Not sure if they ever held out much hope considering there were lots of other moves they could have made it they still thought Kaczur's return was remotely possible...

That they waited this long means they have pretty high regard for Kaczur. We've seen this kind of delay with other vets, where everybody knew they PROBABLY were going on IR, but the team delayed just in case it worked out well.

By way of contrast, guys who are marginal when healthy get IRed the first time they break a toenail.

We've already gone out of the way to bring one douchebag back, lets go ahead and bring Mankins back while were at it.

boo hoo

the turnstile is gone

granted he is re-cooping very well I will add a
b/c we do not need him.

you are allowed to smile when he is ok.... and he is:singing::singing:

Might as well; at least Mankins is young & healthy (and still our best OLman, after all).

Edit: And while we're re-acquiring ex-Pats from Seattle who left here on bad terms, I say we bring home Lawyer Milloy, in exchange for lil' Jimmy Sanders & a 7th-rounder.
